Sound Mind, Sound Body

概要

At ASICS, we believe in the positive benefits of movement for both mind and body. Driven by research and applying human-centric design, we make and sell footwear, apparel and equipment for the lifetime athlete in all of us. Our founder Kihachiro Onitsuka began making athletic shoes in 1949 with the goal of developing society through sports. He later named the company ASICS, which stands for Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, or A Sound Mind In A Sound Body. This speaks to our desire for people everywhere to live healthy lives both mentally and physically. Today, ASICS is a global company with a head office in Kobe, Japan and operations in more than 30 countries. As well as products for running, tennis and other core performance sports, we also offer the SportStyle range, the Onitsuka Tiger brand, fitness-tracking app Runkeeper, and our membership program OneASICS. Follow us on LinkedIn and together let’s celebrate the uplifting power of movement.

The ASICS name was born in July 1977, exactly 47 years ago this week 🎂 We were previously known as Onitsuka Co., Ltd. until a company merger created the need for a new name. But why ASICS? The new name was based on the initial letters of our founding philosophy: Anima Sana In Corpore Sano. Attributed to the Roman poet Juvenal, this means “A sound mind in a sound body” and it was a favorite saying of our founder Kihachiro Onitsuka. In 1977, he poured that founding philosophy into a new company name, ASICS. Today we use “Sound Mind, Sound Body” as our brand slogan, but there are times when only the original Latin expression will do. Happy 47th ASICS – Anima Sana In Corpore Sano. #ASICSHistory #SoundMindSoundBody

Introducing the official delegation wear designed by ASICS for Team Japan. These items will be worn mainly at the awards ceremony and in the Olympic and Paralympic village by delegations of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and Japanese Para Sports Association Japanese Paralympic Committee (JPC). The overall concept balances performance and sustainability, with development based on three themes: 1. Conditioning – the Podium Jacket is equipped with ASICS' proprietary ACTIBREEZE technology, which keeps the inside of the garment ventilated by arranging mesh materials in strategic areas that open and close in response to movement. 2. Sustainability – the Podium Jacket and Podium Pants reduce GHG emissions by approximately 34% compared to 2020 through greater use of recycled materials and renewable energy. The total life cycle carbon footprint is printed on each item. 3. Diversity – the Podium Jacket features a newly designed silhouette that fits various ages and genders, while the T-shirts are also available in bigger silhouettes to allow freedom of styling. Finally, the Shoes are based on the NIMBUS MIRAI, our most circular shoe yet, which allows the materials to be easily separated and recycled at the end of the shoe’s life. 1. Conditioning(コンディショニング):「ポディウムジャケット」には、アシックス独自のテクノロジー「ACTIBREEZE(アクティブリーズ)」を搭載。 #ASICS #TeamJapan

Introducing our competition and delegation uniforms for the Australian Olympic Team. Modeled by Australian Olympians at the Botanic Gardens in Sydney earlier this year, every item of apparel has been specifically tailored to suit the range of motion needed for each sport, a significant undertaking considering the full Australian team comprises 460 athletes from 33 sports. Every piece of the 2024 Olympic uniform features iconic Australian green and gold color schemes and incorporates a new Japonism Yagasuri (arrow pattern), speaking to ASICS’ Japanese heritage. All uniforms also feature an Indigenous print, making it the largest integration of Indigenous prints on athlete uniforms in summer Olympic history. Mark Brunton, Managing Director ASICS Oceania, said: “ASICS believes in the positive power of sport and movement – that it can transform us individually and as a community. It is with great pride that we see the Australian Olympic Team once again donning ASICS uniforms as they prepare to represent our nation on a global stage.” #ASICS #TeamAus

In life, do you go for the easy layups or the difficult three-pointers? 🏀 When ASICS founder Kihachiro Onitsuka began making athletic shoes, he didn’t take the easy route. He started with the most difficult shoe to make, one that has to cope with punishing stops and turns: the basketball shoe. Soon after the Onitsuka Tiger basketball shoe debuted in 1950, it helped the Kobe High School basketball team win Japan’s national championships. The shoe made Onitsuka’s name and helped launch the company that would later become ASICS. However, as the video explains, inspiration came from an unlikely place. #ASICSHistory #Footwear #Innovation

This week we release our 2023 sustainability report, which shows how prioritizing mental and physical well-being is helping to drive our sustainability agenda at ASICS. Our unique social value lies in our ability to get people moving. We believe that what’s good for people can also be good for our planet. In 2023, that included bringing to market our lightest ever CO2e emissions sneaker, raising awareness of the global gender gap in exercise, and inspiring 50,000 people to Run for Reforestation. We’re proud to team up with the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) to take action. At ASICS, we’re dedicated to encouraging active lifestyles and enhancing wellbeing, true to our ethos, "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano" – A Sound Mind In A Sound Body. By embracing the transformative power of movement, we believe we can make significant strides in addressing this critical public health issue. #ASICS #ActiveLives #HealthierWorld #physicalwellbeing #WFSGI #globalhealth

Investment Day at ASICS is when we invite shareholders and the media for a look behind the scenes of our business. Attendees at the event in Tokyo can question our COO, CFO and other executives, and the session is also streamed online. Our latest Investment Day focused on what we call Core Performance Sports (CPS). These are sports besides running that have strategic importance at ASICS. Tennis is our lead CPS globally, with volleyball a global growth sport, and soccer and basketball are core sports in several regions. At the most recent Grand Slam, 31 out of 128 men’s tennis players wore ASICS footwear, more than any other brand. Masashi Seo of the T-Project at ASICS outlined our three key strengths in tennis: R&D collaborations with leading tennis pros, development of shoes for different playing styles, and grassroots initiatives such as the ASICS Tennis Academy. Tennis has huge global reach, and tennis shoes are increasingly worn in emerging sports like padel and pickleball that are attracting millions of new players. ASICS is well positioned to be No.1 in tennis and grow its market share in a number of other core sports. #ASICS #Footwear #Tennis
