Improving the effectiveness of development programming in Jordan

نبذة عنا

The USAID Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Activity works with USAID’s implementing partners, local institutions, and the Government of Jordan to ensure USAID’s activities in Jordan achieve their intended results through monitoring and evaluation, strategic assessments, collaborating, learning, and adapting. The activity trains and guides monitoring and evaluation specialists, technical staff, and senior management within USAID and its implementing partners to help them carefully and effectively monitor and evaluate achievements against their intended results. Knowledge management platforms such as DevResults and USAID’s Jordan Development Knowledge Management Portal "jordankmportal.com", are developed and enhanced to encourage the use of data to improve assessments and decision making. This USAID-funded activity supports the Government of Jordan, local firms, academia, NGOs, and professionals to improve their ability to manage monitoring and evaluation of development initiatives, to develop a cadre of local experts. As a result, the activity will, thereby strengthen Jordan’s MEL community, reducing the need for USAID monitoring and evaluation assistance in the future. Coordination with local institutions create a monitoring, evaluation, and learning community of practice to support the long-term sustainability of this work in Jordan.

On behalf of the USAID Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Activity, Integrated International (INTEGRATED) recently hosted an immersive three-day "Impact Mapping and Evaluation" training session. This hands-on training brought together a diverse group of MEL professionals, all dedicated to enhancing their capacities in measuring program impact. During the training, participants delved into core concepts of impact mapping and evaluation. The session began with impact mapping, focusing on tracing pathways of change and linking them to program contributions. It also covered key distinctions between causation and correlation and introduced the concept of counterfactuals. Participants learned about the essential steps involved in conducting experimental impact evaluations, such as Randomized Control Trials (RCTs), and contrasted these with non-experimental methods. Two full days were devoted to guiding participants through the design, data collection, and analysis of RCTs and non-experimental methods. The training highlighted when to use each method, their respective limitations, and best practices, and concluded with strategies for integrating the results into the program’s CLA framework. A special thank you to our trainers, Nedjma Koval and Leen Al Refai, for their expert facilitation and to everyone who participated and made this training a success!
