Thank you! No i played the piece but recorded it via midi back into the DAW, then I put some swelling echoes, and some large but gentle reverb to give to that spacey feel, then chose 2 different mic positions in the VST which seems to give it a more natural sound than a single position mic. Really glad you enjoyed them!
First off gotta say A for the artwork, and think fiddlersgreen hit it on the head, you really channelled that old school game music feel, fun light, chill but a little bit chaotic, and then you smack us with the change up in pace and feel when we get to the absolute banger, tiger shark tussle. So so good, was not expecting that! Really great work!
This the one of the most fleshed out and complete OSTs ive heard so far, it really covers the full range of levels and sense of challenges faced, really impressive overall. loved the final boss track, definitely got some of that Zelda vibe in there, and just the right amount of chaos in the music to feel the frantic energy at the final push. Really great work!
Hey nice job, I will say that the feel you've made with the music definitely matches the concepts you're going for i could feel the depression, i could feel the fear, conveying what you want in music is the most important/difficult part IMO. As for critique, Jofes makes a good point that your instrumentation is very linear, 4 has the most variations, and drive in it, but even there your melody has very little variation in its rhythm. Set your melody, then go back over it and just add some 8th, 16th notes even triplets every other bar in a little run or arpeggio for some variation that won't really mess with the pacing you've set in the OG melody. From a mix standpoint, it always tempting to add that lovely warm bass, but I'd recommend pulling it back a bit on it, as it does over power the few other instruments in there except for 2 where the guitar is the one that's too loud. Mixing is a MF but an important MF. good work over all, keep it up
Thank you! yea i had fun with that, I gently rolled and egg shaker in front of a microphone, rolled off some of the high end, and surrounded in a comforting blanket of reverb and echo, similar technique for the wind, and left it minimal so it just felt cavernous. Im really glad you liked it, seems the snare was hit and miss for many
This is phenomenal! The flute line over the epic back drop in the corridors of the time palace really gives a sense of awe and excitement, and I really liked the half to triplet to quarters build you had at the end of the fountain of youth, such a nice way to build resolution. But I have the same question as Aesaire, I think of percussion as driving the song, but you've made it almost an embellishment. What was the thought process there?
Great work over all, definitely one of the bests ones of this jam for me!
