The unassuming beginning really made the last part of the game hair-pulling creepy. This was so good! We never got to see the monster (really), but the feeling of something being there alone was the scariest. I especially loved using the eye/brow expressions for serenity; Devinne, you are really, really talented. Also thanks for having a mac build!!
This game is inspired by the unspoken rules and customs that often amazed or surprised me.
During the process of making these mini-games, two books I found fascinating to read:
- The Utopia of Rules: On Technology, Stupidity, and the Secret Joys of Bureaucracy, by David Graeber
- Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison, by Michel Foucault.
No, I did not finish reading them, but they are fun so far. And no, I did not quite finish the game :)
The game uses mouse control for movement only. If you find it difficult to play, it is probably because I'm not very good at building it as I intended. Or maybe it is simply hard to follow these rules unspoken. You get punished enough times until the rules discipline you eventually, or choose to give up.
David Graeber
