I sure see lots of potential after playing this! The gameplay loop is solid and decent, and I really enjoy your art style. Things to consider if you want to improve things in the future:
- Music is very important even for short and small projects. Even the most basic beeps and boops can give lots of enjoyment to the experience, so try to think about it while making something.
- The movement does remind of Madness Combat Interactive but only in the first minutes of gameplay. After a short while the weight of the weapons can become too sluggish and it doesn't really feel like the harder you swing the more damage you deal (which if that's the case it would be better to just leave the controls as fluid as possible for the sake of the player's engagement).
- Enemies tend to overlap and that might become a nuisance if you play for a while. An idea to fix that could be adding a timer to the pathfinding behavior of the baddies that makes them go toward you at different speeds determined by said timer (basically when they get closer to another baddie, make it so they slow down and they don't overlap).
- Effects. You have a very pleasing style, so go wild adding more visual effects! It may not seem like it's very important at first, but adding bigger poofs, chunky sparks and smearing on the weapons adds lots of points to the experience (don't go crazy though unless you want to make a Borderlands clone).
Overall a very good game! I really hope to see more games from you, keep it up :D
