there’s not much to describe what’s happening! we had a bunch of particle fx paul did but i was too tired to implement them. they’re pretty great, the triangle-based ones look like this:

and obv we would have tied them to different emotional states based on their behaviors, or reactions to the world events. so an antisocial cat hates thunderstorms, etc!! i can’t find a gif of one but i think paul also did one of like a star. anyways, all the units do is kiss, bop around and scale up and down!

but anyways thank you for the feedback and thanks for playing!!

LOOOL thanks for playing!

this is exactly what IGN said!!!

we updated our game to rework the core concept into a totally new world design! <3 please let us know what you think!

also wrote a bit about the development in a devlog:

Hello! When will the results be released? : D

The jam description says:

Voting will be judged against:

  • Scare / horror element

  • Story / Background to the gameplay

  • Aesthetics used within the game

  • Sound Design

These will be scaled on a 1-5 rating scale.

But when I click “rate for jam” on a submission it just brings me to their submission page w no rating!

woohoo!!! the jam has completed!!!! :D :D congrats everyone!!

Thanks for the feedback. I want to address the sound note many have brought up as well, am finding time to work on this :) Thanks!!!

Thank you so much for your kind comment! Just wanted to drop a note that we added standalone builds for download to improve performance. Hopefully that works for you :) Thanks for playing!!!

Thank you for your comment! We added standalone builds to hopefully address the lag. <3 :) Thanks for playing!!

Wanted to let you know we fixed this bug in the latest build! Thanks for playing <3

Hello!! If I could send you a NASA PC I would!!!! Maybe the next best thing is standalone builds, since WebGL is prone to slowdowns. Windows, Mac, or Linux, we just added these for download (along w some bug fixes)! Thanks for playing :) :)

Thanks so much for your thorough review. Really appreciate you taking the time to play the game! Wanted to let you know we added some standalone builds which hopefully would improve the framerate. Thanks for playing!!

Hi! Thank you so much for your feedback and for playing / rating our game!! We just posted a build that fixed the exploding units issue, if you wanted to check it out. Thanks!

WOW. Found this game through your submission in the MechJam. I am so inspired by your artistry attention to detail and creativity! <3 Thank you for sharing your art!!

Wow!! Cool mechanics, and a well told story. And nice visuals and animations. I had some trouble with controls but it was also kind of fun to figure them out. The toggle follow is also a neat mechanic esp for puzzles / stealth situations!!

Well done! The scope and quality of the audio, graphics, and mechanics, for one week is amazing and inspiring! These mechanics are a great way to tell a story. The set up and cutscene are a nice “in” for the player as well. Great great job!! So impressive!!

Firefox!

Of course, you and your team did a great job. Love the logo, btw :) it’s pretty silly!

I played the WebGL version (you mentioned it was not optimal!) so I did run into some control issues etc. I love the set up and saying “this is where you come in” but ultimately the gameplay felt more like a payoff of reading about the story than the main event, if that makes sense. A bit more diversity in the environment could have kept me playing longer.

Nice job! Nice combat mechanics you implemented, it’s hard to do in a short time period of the jam, congrats!!

BIG FAN! This is so “fun” (funny word for this!) and well written. I think it captures the violence of the event and text adventures are great for giving player choice w/o sacrificing the integrity of the historically accurate story you’re telling. Nice job! Big fan! :D

Nice job! Really love the top down style. I think I ran into a couple unfortunate bugs.

Movement seems bugged or inverted for me with WASD, and lack of feedback on shooting / ammo / shop didn’t give a lot of clarity to how those mechanics work.

Beautiful animation and top down perspective stuff, really cool. Also an unfortunate bug, I couldn’t watch the intro :( nice job overall though, once I understood the controls the art and animation really shined. Great work!!

Nice entry :) I would have preferred a more clear or concise guide listing out the mechanics and what they mean… almost like, a glossary?

Nice overall design, and audio, would have liked to see some more information about the Irish War for Independence!!

Nice job (ESPECIALLY for your first released game! OMG! Congrats!)

Yes! So sorry, I’m seeing a bug on wave 4… where the explodey bots are invisible. Will look into it and if possible update!
