Yes you can

(1 edit)

Yes, you can... that's the spirt of the jam. No brand-new projects allowed

Correct! You don't need to post a previous version of your game. However, you are not permitted to post a brand-new project. Your devlog should have enough info for us to discern that you are improving a previously developed project. You can be disqualified if you break the rules.

I encountered some bugs so I don't think it is playable on devices yet. I'm working hard to get it fixed but i couldn't get it working before the jam deadline

It's always running. It's not specifically just for the jam. Anyone who wants more personalized feedback for their project can sign up for the service. at any time

Did you join our discord? Discord

I was looking for you in there, but couldn't find you.

It's hard to get people to rate non-digital games. So no.

A participant once tried to enter a tabletop game but had challenges getting people to play and provide feedback. Maybe, you can come up with a solution. If it can work I don't see why not.

Your Devlog is your Twitter page? If it is, It's impossible for me to follow what improvements were made to this game via your Twitter page. I don't want to be too harsh so I would not disqualify you, but at least make an attempt at a devlog next time. itch.io has all the tools.

Itch.io has a feature to create Devlogs on the game edit page. You should probably use the tools the site has next time.

You need to have a working Devlog Link

Team are not only allowed it's encouraged.

You may have to create a new game in itch and submit it that way. ensure you leave a link to the original in your devlog.

You are correct, There is no updating of your game during the rating period. This is for one week. In the case of Improve My Game Jam 29 from the 29th of September to the 6th of October.

When you are submitting your game to the jam there is a required field for you to enter your devlog link.

On your game edit page, the is an option to create a devlog. Use that feature. You can also link a youtube video.

If you have an old project, Improve it, add a feature, and submit it to the jam. Document your improvements in a devlog. You can use your desired language, but note that most of us speak English.

Brilliant!

I didn't get the VHS reference there must be something I missed but this menu just ended up being distracting. I found myself only seeing the insert VHS message and the menus other than the text I actually had to read.  Maybe you should consider a better place to have the menus or if the VHS message has a gameplay value, then it should only be visible at the time it can be used. Other than that not bad...

Thanks for replying... He is right the game does not need to be finished just improved on.

The upside is that you already will have content for the next jam if you miss the deadline so you will not have to work as hard unless you are making more improvements. Work on your game how much you like...

Sure there are no restrictions to when you can start to work on your game or devlog. Hence the deadline is final... if you miss it you have to wait on the next jam.

The atmosphere is ok, I got lost and didn't know what to do at all. I was not frustrated I just was lost. I didn't feel threatened by the enemy chasing me with a knife.

Good start,  basic mechanics are working. No gameplay loop, narrative, or objectives. Feels like a test sandbox.

Wow, I have so many feelings about this game. At times it was fun, and at times frustrating. I don't know exactly what it is but ultimately I left the game feeling frustrated. It took me a while to figure out that the big purple thing was a level select screen. The levels are cool but some are really frustrating. I'm not a fan of the mouse grappling hook, I find it a chore to use. Sound effects when Jumping and using the grappling hook could be louder. I didn't finish. I dropped out somewhere in the Centrifuge room around 45min playing. The room with the two platforms moving and you have to change gravity between them.

The game on the whole is a vast improvement from when I last played it. About 4-5 jams ago. Keep up the good work. I didn't pay attention to the story much but it seems to work ok.

Suggestion... add a death counter, I found myself wanting to know how many times I died. Add it to the pause menu or something. It's not essential.

I think it's probably my machine. I played on an HP Laptop, Win 10, 12 GB ram, AMD Ryzen 3, AMD Radeon Graphics. The game moved Sluggish even though the startup video brandings, which lead me to believe it can be some sort of isolated incident. I admit the gameplay seemed fun but I had a terrible experience.

I would prefer to have acceleration as Spacebar and break as Left-Alt. But that's just me.  The Arrow keys are fine for steering.  XD... You're right to prioritize what's important... Keep up the good work.

My experience with this game was terrible. Is the game supposed to run so slowly? Everything felt like it took two years to happen. The menu load was slow, the combat was slow. I don't know, but it feels like an isolated incident, as everything else in the game looks top-notch.

Nice Job! I encountered lots of issues though.

Bro the camera. When you press tab, to focus on an enemy target, the camera goes in a top down angle. No sound effects or particle effects to indicate hitting a foe. and there isn't a way to exit the game when you are in a level, at least I never found how. Also, the art style feels cluttered. Everything blends together and feels like everything in the world is one color.  just a few things you can work on for the next Jam.

This game is great! It's fun and challenging. Great work.

Here are some suggestions that I think would greatly increase this game's appeal.

Particle effects on the car tires. Some sort of penalty when you go off track, grass should slow you down. Button configurations... Allow the player to change their controls. You need to implement some sort of menu for that. Turning sound effects at speed. This would give the player some sort of indication that they are too fast for the turn. Also, the isometric view allows the player to not see corners at speed. Some better indication on the track would be nice.

The gameplay is great. I had some trouble with the UI I couldn't tell which option is to leave. The opening felt like I was watching a cutscene in a Kojima game, in the sense that it was really long. I started to not read the dialog. Also, I couldn't figure out where to go after I beat the first level. If it's narrative you are going for, you would need to use some visual tricks to keep the player's attention. Like shorter sentences to read and clever storyboarding. Cool art style! Some more visual feedback is needed though to let the player know the characters that are friendly, from those who are enemies, or even an indication of a change of state.

Well Done Bro... This game is awesome.  I have a few suggestions though.

I never found a way to regain health. I get frustrated when you start a run and you get hit twice in the first wave, then you have 1 health for the rest of the run. I think you should reward the player with at least 1 health after every round. Have a repair center in the shop maybe. I think it will give the player something to fight toward other than random power-ups.

You should allow users to be able to change the crosshair color and the mouse sensitivity. Enemies are sometimes the same color as your crosshair so I lose my crosshair in the chaos. Also, you should allow mouse and keyboard users to adjust the mouse sensitivity. I would have enjoyed the game much more if I could have increased the mouse sensitivity more than it currently is in the game.

The deadline is final. That is one of the features of this jam. You have to meet the deadlines.

There is always the next jam and you wouldn't even need to work on your project as you already have improvements implemented from this Jam.

Sorry if you missed the deadline, there is another jam Approximately 2 months from now you can submit then.

Yes... Any questions you want the player to answer during their play through ask here

The Game Crashed with me the first time starting. Not sure what the issue... but it eventually worked and the game is fun. I think maybe the graphics are too high-end for less powerful computers so optimizing may be a task that you may need to look into. The song in the shop is a Banger.
