I remember reading the story when I was young, bawling my eyes out, then forgetting about it as I grew older. And, while the alternative ending is heartwarming, I can't help but drift toward the original one still. There is a freedom in death just as there is in living, both are beautiful and both brought Poppy peace. On a more lighthearted note, I adore the detail on Ruddy's suit during his adolescence. The purple butterfly showing how, whether you take the end A or end B, both were in God's plan: End B having Him Himself taking poppy away, while End A showing His fingerprints with reuniting Poppy and Ruddy. Beautiful artwork for a beautifully sad story
