Did your team create most/all of the graphics yourselves?

Yes

Did your team create most of/all the audio yourselves?

No

How did you incorporate the theme "COMBINATION"?
The player must enter the correct combination of missile launch codes to fire at enemies. Launch codes are randomly generated at the start of each game so you'll have to learn new combinations each time, and under pressure!

Really cool! I was lost at first but managed to do better once I kind of learned the patterns, making it random also is a nice touch and adds a lot to the game. Great work!

Really cool interpretation of the theme, but I wish it paused when you checked the combos 😂

Art was simple but effective, and the audio was really satisyfing, though much louder than the music!

Somebody beat my score of 343. I'll wait.
In all seriousness, very cool game, very polished, and very fun. Loved it. Couldn't seem to get the three attack when doing the combo backwards thing to work. If I were to nitpick your very solid game, I would say having keyboard input would be nice, and maybe ramp up the difficulty faster.

Really cool game. Nice theme implementation and genre.

Really addicting! Maybe have some kind of keyboard control if you ever revisit it, sometimes I felt combinations weren't being picked up even though I (seemingly) clicked it. Very minor gripe though, great work!

Developer( 1)

Thanks for trying it out :) Maybe that lack of response had something to do with the very minor gun-jam/cooldown after you open and shut the combo cheat sheet? Maybe you were just super quick. Something to think about for an update, thanks heaps!

Nice entry. I like how the tension ramps up quite quickly which I want in a high score game. Making the combination code randomised was a good choice, keeps you on your toes and prevents you from cheesing a highscore. Fab take on the theme also.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing 😁

Good casual game which gets nicely harder quickly lol!

Developer( 1)

Yes it does.... I think the next step will be to have the codes randomize/change mid game at a set interval to really keep you on your toes!

Simple and fun game that for some reason kept me playing for longer than I thought it would. However, if you could update the art for it to make the enemies look better and also maybe a way for the player to see what they have inputted because sometimes I feel like I pressed the correct combination with the enemies in range but still got jammed.

Developer

Thanks for playing! And for the useful feedback too :)

Even though the gameplay/core mechanic is really simple, it keeps the player engaged. Nice work!

But if you could add some small details or features like an interactive tutorial, slow the missiles down when the player checks the combinations or increase the number and the speed of the missiles and the range after a certain score etc. It would be more fun to play.

Except that, it's a really fun to play after you memorize the combinations.

Developer

Cheers for checking it out. And those are some really good ideas too. I would have loved to have had time for an interactive tutorial, and definitely top of the list for any post jam updates :)

What I liked

  • The theme was clearly implemented
  • I liked the concept of using the combination as firing codes.
  • You included instructionsl which I think is necessary with any kind of puzzle mechanics that aren't obvious to the player.
  • You took a classic game and gave it a twist. I feel like there's a sizeable number of people who try to make something completely unique, which is fine. However, there's value in taking an old or favorite game and making it how you'd like to play it.

Suggestions/Feedback

  • Despite having instructions, I think an interactive tutorial would be helpful if you moved forward with this after the jam. Just to ease the learning core without all the pressure first.
  • I feel like it was intentional for the sake of keeping pressure on the player, but checking your launch sequences wouldn't pause the game. I think it would be helpful to the player to have them visible all the time like a sidebar UI. It's something I would consider, but also take with a grain of salt.

Overall, its a fun game to play once you get the hang of it. Congrats to both you on your work!

Developer

Thanks for your detailed feedback! And first on the list for post-jam updates would definitely be more clarity/tutorial.

At first, I was "Ok that is not so cool" and then I couldn't stop playing haha great job! That is some room to polish but since is a jam's game is understandable. Pretty interesting idea though, with some more mechanics it could be a really awesome game

Developer

Thanks for playing it! And I kind of love your reaction 😂

really nice simple game that utilises the theme very well! Great effort.

Submitted( 2)

Damn I had so much fun! So much pressure. Works really great! The visuals look a bit flat but for a game jam and since you did it yourself that's really nice. Awesome concept!

very fun but i could never get any combinations except triangles EVEN THOUGH I WAS PUTTING THEM IN RIGHT..... or i am just bad ._.

Interesting! You need to make sure the enemies are no loner silhouetted (in range) to shoot, if not the gun will jam. Perhaps you were jumping the gun a bit? Also, to reset the code for the enemy you need to click the middle fire button. Perhaps that will help you? Sorry for that bug though :/ that really sucks!

it could just be me being dumb because the other guy said it was working well

( 1)

Your not dumb, no worries! It was our duty to try and make things as clear as possible, so it's our fault! Perhaps the instructions page could help you out :) best of luck

Well I played this for much longer than I had intended to lol had a really good time though! It took about 6-7 minutes of gameplay before i really found myself in a situation where I needed to use 3 missles at once, but once I needed that feature it was a ton of fun. For some reason it took a ton of time to realize that I needed to press the center button once I put in the combo, I might just be a dumb dumb though. Great game!

:0 HOW i could only get to 9

Submitted

lol by about 50 I had all of the combos memorized. It took awhile for me to figure out how to work it though.

Developer( 1)

Well done! Cheers for playing by the way. And like many things in the game, it's not clear, but you actually get extra points for the backwards triple shot From the feedback here, the consensus seems to be that the game lacks clarity. I might do an update after the jam closes just to make it easier to understand.
