If you feel yourself getting an itch to play an old-school platformer, Manuee's Adventure acts as a perfectly serviceable title that offers a diverse array of environments that the titular character can travel through, as well as some secret collectibles that give the game some replayability.
One of the game's high points is undoubtedly the expressive and fluid animation of the titular character. Manuee's character maintains a distinct identity and feel, which you really get a sense of in his idle animations. I got a chance to see the early version of the character, and the version in this game is a massive improvement. The enemies have fluid animation, but are otherwise unremarkable.
One thing I noticed is that the art style between the first level and the later stages feels as though it's from two different games. The contrast wasn't too much of a bother, but I feel as though the first stage's assets could have used an overhaul to make them match the style of the later stages.
The hidden coins were a nice touch, and some of them were tricky to get to. Unfortunately the code for the hitboxes was a bit buggy, which was noticeable when I got stuck in a wall and had to reset...
The game is quite short - it has 3 stages and a boss. But the added support for controllers and different languages is a nice touch. Overall, Manuee's Adventure is perfectly acceptable for what it is - if you've got 15 minutes to kill, you could do worse than playing this game.
The fast-paced platforming is both fun and simple enough for anyone to grasp, kinda like Mario or a classic Sega Genesis game I don't recall off the top of my head.
Anyways, presentation is great. I can't speak on the music as I was the sole composer for it, so I think I'd be a bit too bias to it. Sprites tho, are really solid. The stages all pop with nice colors, the squash and stretch on the slime enemies is fitting and really smooth. Manuee's Idle animations are very charming.
Level design has plenty of secrets to find, making collecting all 9 coins somewhat challenging and interesting to explore every wall. Solid time if you have 5 minutes to spare.
