Description
Its a OST for a cancelled PG-13 JRPG. It consists of a main theme, which will be played in menu, random battle encounter theme, shop theme and ending music. Main theme is, probably, a main menu music - it introduces 'the girl' leitmotif, which will be mutated in the battle theme and ending theme. I wanted to write something funky so decided to make a battle theme. Battle theme serves as a soundtrack for random encounters typical of JRPG genre. The vendor theme is music playing when player is safe and shopping at a local underwater blacksmiths'. The ending theme is music playing after defeating the final boss - Fish King - who, in the last moments of his life, is revealed to be a main characters' father, so this theme is more dramatic and sad.

Theme

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
Sounds of this OST are mostly synths - some spacey and dimmed to represent the depths and darkness of the ocean, some are bright and sharp to represent the underwater civilization - the "aquatopia" - a world at the bottom of the ocean, where fish, seaweed and other strange creatures reside. The main character - a girl in the picture - has to save aquatopia from a tyrannical Fish King. Main theme has a leitmotif which can be found in other tracks. It represents the girl, and can be wonderous and joyful or melancholic, depending on the track.

I ADORED the battle theme!

It is the closest thing I have heard to my favorite video game OST of all time Mad Rat Dead!

It was just a pure delight!

The battle theme have some most grooviest beat I heard of so far, I like the vibes in your soundtrack is immaculate. I also like the little plucks in the ending theme, really well made.

I wonder how funky of game for a JRPG you described with your kind of music

Very fun listen with some real catchy grooves. Battle theme had me hooked

Wow i enjoyed this so much, that battle theme is up there for one of my favourite individual tracks I've listened to so far; so well executed and mixed, especially that electric piano/synth chord part in the opening. I would really love to hear more of what you make in the future, you should make a soundcloud or sm to upload your work!!

Oh yes, it's time for soundtracks with epically beautiful covers!

The main theme is Heh, sounds like a good muse. escort to some futuristic underwater city of fish)

Vendor Theme theme sounds like an interesting night theme. Imagine: the night streets of an underwater city. Flashlights, glowing teenage fish who want to escape from their parents' house, and a couple of sleepy fish who are not allowed home

The battle theme is a very groovy theme (I danced to it) It's a very interesting idea to make a mix of jazz and... a fish synthesizer?)

The final theme - Well, how can you do without the melancholic ending of the soundtrack with notes of happy dynamics? No way! And you did it perfectly)

Good... It was one of those soundtracks that I shook my head to. Cool!

Love how jazzy/swingy the battle theme is, really unique take! Very nice moment at 0:55, impressive rhythm. The whole vibe feels so distinct, throughout the tracks. I think it might be cool l to add additional background elements to the ending theme, as the pallete you have already fits the theme really well. Which is great and sounds like an aquatic theme from a nintendo game, with the swing elements adding to it. Great work on this!

I really liked the Battle Theme, very vibey. I would just pinpoint your mix, it could use some work, but overall nice OST!

Developer

Thank you for feedback! I know that mixing is probably my weakest aspect, it just seems so boring and unintuitive compared to composing; but, of course, it still needs to be at an appropriate level.

Lovely OST!

Vender Theme is fantastic. Specially the different kind of sound mixture.

Good job!

Hmm, Vendor Theme, an unusual pick! Thank you!

I enjoyed this one, even though it was short. An upbeat take on the theme, but one thing I felt didn't hit me was the personal connection between the MC and the world they were in.
Musically, I enjoyed the funky and wet Synth sounds.

I liked it!

Thank you for honesty! It's hard sometimes to express some more definite concepts through music, but I think that's the sign of a mastery, so I'm aiming to achieve it!

Oh this immediately reminded me of something Yuzo Koshiro would put together. Some Streets of Rage vibes embedded in here for sure with a nice personal twist to make it your own. The Battle Theme and Main Theme are the standout pieces for me personally; fantastic choice of synths. Genuinely a great submission, thoroughly enjoyed it. Super groovy and well produced.

Developer

Thank you! I thought I wasn't familiar with Yuzo Koshiro so I've googled his music, but after listening I realised that I have definetely heard it before. His style, for me, is quintessential game music - you won't hear this in films or any other media.

Very enjoyable listen. Great sounds and rhythms. Well done!

Ok really vibing with the chill beat from Main Theme. Decent water vibes. Giving me feelings of DS-era soundtracks. Great job with all the synths! I'm a big fan of putting in the effort to engineer patches and textures.

Battle Theme is tight. Love the "blurpy" Serum synths with the call and response with the piano (around 00:29). Great transition into chorus.

Thank you! I agree, it feels great to not just create compositions, but sounds, too. Sometimes I try to write music, but after couple hours of fruitless effort all I get is a bunch of new cool sounds - so the effort wasn't fruitless after all.
