Create a tiny Interactive Fiction piece in 500 words or less!

This returning jam is a commemoration of Porpentine's Twiny Jam, where creators were limited to making Twine games with less than 300 words.

Constraints and Rules:

  • You are limited to 500 words total.
    • You can submit up to 3 submissions, each with the same 500 words limit.
    • Sound, graphics, other assets, or code, do not count towards the word limit.
    • Built-in messages (like error messages or basic parser responses) is considered code, and thus do not count towards the word limit.
  • Unlike the original Twiny Jam, you can use any program/medium, as long as the piece can be considered Interactive Fiction (i.e. the game is interactive, and its focus is on the text).
  • The Jam is open to any language, as long as the word count is respected.
  • Entries can have NSFW content, as long as you indicate it in your submission.
  • You must credit any asset used in your entry, or it will be removed (ex: code, images, sound, etc...)
  • Entries using AI or LLM will be removed.
  • Spam or hateful content will be removed.
  • During the duration of the jam and the two weeks following the deadline, the submissions should be free to play.

Possible Softwares to create Interactive Fiction:

Share this Jam on Tumblr (#neotwinyjam) - Join our Discord - Discuss on the IntFiction Forum

At the end of the Jam, we will create an IFDB page for every entry. The IFDB, or Interactive Fiction Database, is an IF game information catalogue, creating a historical record of the IF landscape. You can also create this page yourself before the end of the Jam! Contact the organisers by dms for questions or if you'd rather not be included.

You can also opt-in to see your entry submitted to the IF Archive (the entry will be playable from its IFDB page) or submit it yourself!

As with the previous edition, we will be turning this event into a fundraising one, where the number of submitted entries* will be matched into a donation to an LGBT organisation. This year's chosen charity is TransEquality A proof of donation will be made available after the jam is completed.
*the entries must follow the rules of the jam to be counted.

If you would like to join in matching your donation, please let the organisers know.
We will provide a list of organisation you may want to consider, if you do not have one in mind.
