Haha what a lovely game. I can tell you put a lot of thought into this. The tutorial went from 0 to 60 real fast. "This is how you farm, and btw your cows will explode, oh and BTW EXPLODING WASPS!"

I personally prefer a tutorial that allows me to experiment with each piece of advice/mechanic, otherwise I feel a little overwhelmed and start forgetting pieces. Also, my barn got attacked by a wasp while I was still reading the tutorial (I'm a slow reader) :P

You managed to fit a lot of satisfying game loops in here, and the level of polish is actually higher than you gave credit! In my opinion, any jam game that adds a pause menu is ahead of the curve! Loved the music choice.

Did this game take any inspiration from Fallout?

Welp I survived for 10 days with a final score of 64K.
Final thoughts - this game is so damn intense and punishing.
Nonetheless, very well done sir.

This kind of time management game is exactly my jam. Very polished, very well designed systems, satisfying loop. I especially love the balance of how every industry has its own pros and cons regarding complexity and time consumption vs reward. If I were to nitpick I would probably request mouse control for everything. Space is a bit awkward to press over and over while using WASD. Also a DEEP nitpick but the option to hold down the mouse button to move large amounts of goods back and forth would be nice QOL improvement. It seems like this function is already there but could use a bit faster ramp up time. I could see myself playing this a long time. Excellent work!

Complex, engaging and relaxing at the same time. Music and the overall mechanics are excellent.

Only thing that confused me was that the shotgun was used via mouse but all other tools via space.

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! I added mouse control for the shotgun because you have to aim it with the mouse, but I agree it isn't very consistent with the rest of the tools.

The game started a little bit slow, but once I got the hang of the basics this game ended up being a lot of fun. One of the best one's I've seen so far.

Developer( 1)

Thank you, I really appreciate that!

Wow a lot of content for a jam game. Felt pretty good gameplay wise. Missing some comfort features but very impressive given the time limit. Also fuck wasps...

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! By comfort features, do you mean an easy tutorial, or something else that I've missed?

Submitted( 1)

An easy and maybe more gradual tutorial, I didn't find the map too useful the way it was, tooltips, a clock so you can get home by nightfall, a way to move multiple objects at once in the inventory. Might be I just missed some of those if they are already in. Also nothing that missed so badly it impacted my enjoyment

But I'm definitely going to play again so maybe more to come :) Oh thinking about that: saving and loading games ;)

Developer

That's all really useful feedback - thank you! The map's purpose right now is just to show where the player is relative to the town and farm so you don't end up getting lost, but it would be nice to implement updating the map when your break trees/rocks. I'm not too sure what you mean about the clock - it does fill in over time each quarter, and when it gets fully dark, the next quarter (or 'tick') begins. Tooltips and moving multiple items: totally agree with that, and saving/loading games is something I will be implementing either in an update or a future game. Thank you for playing, and for the detailed feedback! :)

Submitted( 1)

I missed the clock. No idea how that happened. So add glasses and more sleep for me to the list of useful updates...

There is quite a lot of depth, but this does add a lot of complexity. So, an interactive tutorial is really a must. Eventually I could figure out how to plow the land and how to water it, but I still didn't know how to seed it.

Developer

Thank you for this feedback! Agreed that an interactive tutorial is required here, but unfortunately by the time I had made the text-wall tutorial, there was not enough time to integrate this into its own level or make it more interactive. If you're still wondering, you can seed the land by pressing space with the hoe after collecting seeds, or by pressing space while holding a carrot.

Submitted( 1)

Okay, I'd also add more feedback. Like the guy saying: "I need to hoe the land first", and "Now I can sow those seeds located at [I couldn't figure out where they were stored]".

Developer

Yeah that's fair. It is all in the tutorial (you can get seeds from slashing the natural grass with the hoe), but in my attempt to make the tutorial as short as possible, it becomes a little bit obscure once you actually start playing. Thanks for all the feedback, I will definitely consider all this for either an update or my next game!

Wow! Just wow!!!  It's crazy that you did this in 48 hours! :D good job!!!

Developer

Thank you! I must say the last few hours were fairly stressful, but happy with what we pulled off!

Submitted( 1)

Super engaging, but super challenging! The time pressure was intense. Never a dull moment, or a second where I didn't know exactly what I had to do. Well done creating such a compelling experience! I did find the hotbar a little annoying, there isn't much point to having all the tools on different slots besides forcing players to have to switch to them, occasionally screwing up and wasting time.

Overall, very good, well done!

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you got into the game! Interesting feedback about the hotbar, I hadn't really thought about that - it was literally the first thing added to the game after the player movement, so I never looked back haha. I guess I could just say it adds to the challenge, but if it was frustrating then perhaps it is something to think about changing. Thanks for playing!

This is my favourite game so far. I had to foce myself to stop playing. The level of polish is incredible. This game reminds me alot of Atomicrops with it's switch between causual farming and action based base defence.

Developer

Wow, that means a lot to me, thank you! I hadn't heard of Atomicrops, but it looks pretty fun, the idea of using plants as a defence mechanism is fun!

Submitted( 1)

It's incredible that you managed to fit such a large and complex game into a gamejam like this, with a surprising amount of polish. The tutorial left me a bit overwhelmed, having a more guided system where you actually use each thing you learn before being told to learn the next thing would have helped me. I also found crops growing in a quarter day quite unbalanced; in my experience it took most of a quarter day to harvest and replant the whole field, which didn't leave much time to explore for more animals or do things in the town. I think it could have also benefited from more mouse interaction, it is already used for aiming and firing the shotgun, so being able to also use it for regular interactions in place of space/e, and sometimes for drag & drop on the inventory could have made the interface smoother.

Still, all of these are quite nitpicky. The game has a lot of polish and breadth, and a reasonable amount of depth, and I didn't run into anything that seemed like a bug (other than the wasps of course).

Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I agree about the tutorial - yes there should totally be a level to guide the player through at the start, but time just wouldn't allow it after I finished the wordy tutorial. I actually disagree about the crops - the game is largely based around time management; to plant crops, you have to sacrifice time that could be spent going to the shop, or working at the windmill, or looking for resources. The mouse issues have been mentioned a few times, and I definitely agree that there should be more versatile/universal control options in the game. That said, I really do appreciate your feedback and I will consider these changes if I update after the jam!

Surprisingly deep game. Amazing to see the amount of mechanics and polish you manage to put into this one. I enjoyed my time with it!

Developer

Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed your time in our game!

As many have said, the scope of this is quite impressive. When I got the notification about there being a town to upgrade my shotgun at my jaw dropped a bit ;)

To be honest I'm not a big farming sim player so it was a bit off-putting after the text tutorial that bombards you with all information at once to stand there and not really knowing what to do. I figured it out though and have to say the game has a nice learning curve actually and is quite engaging. Everything seems pretty polished. So there is not much to say except: Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you got into it in the end :)

A very complicated farming game, even being too complicated, but still very well executed.

A level dedicated only for the tutorial would make it easier to understand.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Agreed with the tutorial level, it wasn't something I thought of in development but given some extra time I would have liked to add one.

Submitted( 1)

The scope of this game is impressive given the time limit. I think the tutorial could use some work since there are a lot of mechanics. Maybe let the players play as the game teaches the mechanics. Anyway, the execution and polish was great!

Developer( 1)

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah the tutorial is slightly lackluster in that regard, I would love to implement some sort of tutorial level to guide the player through, but there wasn't enough time for that. Glad you enjoyed!

Submitted( 1)

Simply amazing. I would never have imagined that this was produced in 48 hours. There are a ton of features implemented - minimap, day-night cycle, procedural generation, just to name a few. The tutorial was very well done, with indicators telling you where to go even off-screen. That lonesome music playing in the background as I scour around for animals and resources for my farm, sprinting to the shop to sell my produce and earn money for my upgrades, all of it feels amazing; it fits the setting and theme very well. Even the little door opening as I enter the farm feels great. The user interface is extremely polished, very clear and easy to understand. There are also good game design choices, like just showing where the wasps would be coming from, the slow and steady increase in the amount of wasps, allowing a short period of time before exploding, and the way the prices are set up to enable the decision-making of choosing what types of produce to make and sell (and also whether to actually go to the market or stay at the farm). Because the days are short enough and will need the player to defend the barn at night, the repetitive farming doesn’t feel tedious as you can’t do everything in one day; choices have to be made especially later on in the game.

I had a blast playing this and was mostly in awe. It feels like a fully completed game. I couldn’t think of a single criticism.

Developer

Wow, that is such a kind review! I'm blown away by how much you liked it! A lot of care went into the balance and speed of the game, so I'm happy it paid off and made a good experience for you. Thank you so much!

Submitted( 1)

Wow man, this is a top 10 entry for sure. The sheer amount of content and game functionalities you managed to implement in 48 hours is crazy! Most of the games in this jam are on the scale of only 1 of your mechanics.
Really, amazing job. The music also fits in perfectly and is very moody.

Developer

Thank you so much, that really means a lot! And I'm glad you liked the music as well :)

Submitted( 1)

Wow, thats some overscoping for gamejam! That's a lot of content, well done! I had some real lag issues in web version, but desktop version is running fine.

Developer

Thanks for the review! Sorry you had some problems with the web version - I don't think there's very much I can do about that - but I'm glad you got the desktop version to work in the end

Submitted( 1)

Yeah, I know. My game had issues in web as well, so I decided not to  publish it at all.

Submitted (1 edit) ( 1)

Great game! It's so polished and detailed, it's a ready product, I believe!

I will play it more and maybe give you more feedback, but for now I was just purely enjoying this.

Nice job!

Developer (1 edit) ( 1)

Thank you, I'm happy you found it enjoyable and look forward to hearing your feedback!

Submitted( 1)

hey men, nice game, the mechanichs feels pretty nice, at first was a little strange cause its not allways the same keyboard to make the action (like putting goods in barn) but after a couple of times I got used to it. Ithink was this game need is motivation to keep playing, like an objective, cause at certain part you ask yourself why are you playing. After that the game its pretty good

Developer( 1)

Thank you for the feedback! The sort of objective in this game is to get the highest score possible, since the nights get harder and harder each night. The click/space combo was an odd choice, I agree, and I will think about how to make that more simple if I update after the jam!
