Lovely fishing game!

Very nice pixel art and nice variety of takodachis to create.

If anything I'd add a fishing rod upgrade mechanic that allows for catching more fish at the same time or gives you better manouverability (faster movement) or even enables double dipping (go back down after touching a fish/ground). And after the full "recipe book" is complete, you go to the next level with a different/harder submarine layout and new takodachi recipes.

Well done!

Developer

Good suggestions for sure!

Quite cozy! I did like the Animal Crossing-style ease of losing track of cohesive thought and letting life become fishin' for a good while! I dig the cute pixel art, and the pretty deep blend of mixes for the different 'dachis that you can discover... reminds me of those alchemy games where you collect elements and then blend them together. A good base for a hybrid-cute/horror type!

Fish quantity definitely comes to mind, when coming back up. Could imagine an upgrade system that would help alleviate that as the player gathers more ingredients over time, some sort of scaling could be good. The primary difficulty in the game lies in the player's ability to go deeper with the same parameters (anchor size, level design, and depth sink/return rate)... I'm wondering how else you could spice that up!

Beyond that, can definitely picture where you could go with this! More lakes or bodies of water, deeper (fathom gauge doko), more varied biomes, more 'dachis, maybe more things to mix, possibly even a "shop" of sorts to "sell" the 'dachis or byproducts of the deep... could even do some subtle worldbuilding with the eldritch buildup or deeper progression! Thank you for submitting 🙇‍♂️

Hey no problem! Thanks for playing; I'd definitely love to rearchitect and then continue this game in the future :)

Really Nice Fishing Game! I Loved everything about it! Still dont understand how i crafted Yorickdachi but oh well xD There is only 1 Bug that i faced playing it. After catching a yellow eel i tried catching another one (which i did) but that one dissappeared and after that i couldnt catch any other 2nd fish as if i already had catched 2. I first thought "maybe i did catch 2 eels" but after reeling them in i only got 1. Other than that i join the other opinions that it would be really cool to add some abilities or something like that. This would make it a REALLY fun game xD

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the bug report! I have a good lead on why the eel may have disappeared but the circumstances are too rare for it to be considered a "game breaking" bug, so I don't think I'm allowed to fix it for now unfortunately

As for Yorick, its recipe is any crafting attempt with 3 or more of the base ingredient (bottled purple ingredient) but without fulfilling the recipe for any of the other existing takodachis. Essentially just meant to be the result of messing up a recipe :)

I really like the unique take on fishing here! The gravity/platformer-based fishing where you have to control the hook as it moves underwater makes it feel so different from other games with fishing mechanics :O
All the different Takos you craft are super cute too :)

The fishing mechanics here are definitely something I've wanted to experiment with for a while, so I'm glad I could for this jam. Thanks for playing and enjoying the takos!

I really like the takodachi and fish designs! only thing is I wish I could  grab more than two fish on the way up.

Developer

Wanting to hook more than 2 fish seems to be a common sentiment for sure! Thank you for playing!

I had fun playing! I really like your fish designs, especially the fauna fish!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed! The fauna fish is a Fuuuugu :)

I really like this fishing mechanic, simple yet fun. I would have been nice if the fish didn't disappear after going behind a stone. I expected it to continue on the other side. But it was a nice game, would love to see more stuff!

Developer( 1)

That's a fair criticism! I made it that way so that people wouldn't get "sniped" by a fish they couldn't see and didn't want to catch, but I understand it's counterintuitive and can still somewhat work against the player if it was a fish they did want to catch. Thank you for playing!

Really creative way of implementing a "fishing" game mechanic, I really like it! Like tex mentions, additional abilities from crafted takos instead of just being trophies would be really cool.
Also, since this game is about Ina, maybe in the future you can develop the lake to go deeper (perhaps with progression from upgrades or crafted takos),  and you'll start to encounter horrors or eldritch being and stuffs to fish up? I think it would add that Dave the Diver's/Subnautica's addictive element of exploring the deep to this game.

Happy to hear you liked it! I tried to somewhat elude to the eldritch horror side of things with the fish at the deepest section, but I would have liked to pursue this concept further for sure

A very relaxing fishing game with a fun concept!

Glad you enjoyed!

One of my favorites so far! Unlike most fishing games, it's neither too stressful nor boring, and it has a nice relaxing atmosphere fitting of an Ina game. And it feels like there is a lot of room for expansion if you wish to continue working on the game. One thing you could try: maybe have an (upgradeable) meter that represents your fishing line (how far you can go down), and instead of hitting a wall making you return immediately, each collision would reduce your meter, allowing you some leeway to make mistakes. You could also combine it with what kshut said and allow you to catch more than two fish, but give it a downside as well (such as making each fish making your meter go down faster, or to make collisions more punishing), introducing an element of risk versus reward. It would be cool if you could also sell fish and then buy stuff from a shop, or to have the Takos you craft give you some kind of abilities). Really fun and promising game overall!

Developer

Yeah these are cool suggestions too! Not sure when I'd ever get around to it but I'd love to continue experimenting with this concept

Very cute and cozy game! Love all the cute takodachi and fish variations! My only feedback is that I wish you could reel in more than 2 fish at a time, cuz I think it'd be fun to grab a whole bunch of fish on the way up.

Developer

Thanks for playing! And that is a pretty fun idea actually, in hindsight maybe I shouldn't have limited that. I find it unlikely I'll continue this project directly since the source code is pretty botched (it was my first time working in Godot), but maybe I could mess with the idea for a remake or something down the line!
