Good music, good core loop, and a good amount polish overall. I would like a few more SFX (gun firing, death sounds etc.), but it was feature complete. I think the color palette made the game super harsh to look at for me. Just a matter of personal taste, but it was a little much.
Overall, super impressive and a great entry.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback. Haha yeah totally fair about the visuals being a bit abrasive, just wanted something simple enough to execute in the time I had that was also thematically consistent.
Thanks again for playing!
Overall it's a simple idea, easy to understand, and then you die :D I managed to finish it after a few tries, it was fun to play. Good game, congrats!
Thanks so much for playing and for the kind words, appreciate it!
Great work! The music for this gets me super amped up! One thing that tripped me up was the window scaling isn't set right, I'm on an ultrawide monitor (which I hate but it's the spare that works) and since it auto-fullscreens, the menus get cut off. And since you don't actually need to move for the first levels, but on the spinner, I wondered if the aspect was messing something up. But I enjoyed those first levels enough to get onto another computer, and that's when I clicked on the actual game page to see WASD. FWIW, I think not moving actually plays pretty well.
I definitely recommend having an options screen for audio, full screen and something to show the controls because it's so easy to miss things. I think I've probably played a dozen stationary laser games at this point so that's definitely where my head's at. And in this case, where the ratings page has the download link so it's easy to totally skip the main page.
And since I've now read the main page, I'm really impressed with extra short time period. Also I love the level sub text, they had me grinning the whole time. Great job!
For reference, here's what it looks like on my monitor:
P.S I hadn't considered just making the player static, that could've made it much more effective!
Thanks so much for playing and for the great feedback! It's actually a 3D game made to look 2D, just because I've never made a 2D game so wasn't sure how to scale it properly. Ironic that that's what's made it fall apart for you on your ultrawide monitor haha.
Really appreciate you going back and giving it another shot though. It definitely needed an options menu, just ran out of time as you said, I only had the weekend to work on it. I definitely could've put the controls on the main menu though, that's a great point that I hadn't considered about game jam games. Will bear that in mind for future.
Thanks again for playing!
Its unfortunately pretty easy to cheese most of the levels by bumping the enemies/yourself against a wall that doesn't exist in the mirror until shooting directly no longer earns you a bullet coming back the same way. That issue aside the execution's pretty good, especially since going by the comments you only had 3 days to work on it? And I weirdly enjoy the max-saturation aesthetic.
Hey, thanks so much for playing and for the feedback! You're absolutely right, it falls apart a little bit due to the level design. Wish I'd had a bit more time to test ideas (like stopping the player moving if the enemy hit a wall etc) to prevent some of the mechanics being exploited, but was too excited by the idea not to try and make it in the time I had.
Thanks again
Fun little puzzle shooter!
Thanks for playing! Appreciate it
Great work! It's a fun idea and I liked learning to play it. It seems like it could be pretty easy to cheese it on levels where you can offset the positions of the black and white pawns. Great work - congrats on the submission!
I just ended up running it, lol
Thanks again for playing! Yeah there's definitely a high cheese chance! Would love to have put more time into the design but only had three days to work on it. Fingers crossed it's fun for the 60 seconds it lasts haha
Nice idea! I wasn't quire sure though whether you need to kill the left or right one? Looks like the right one.. But then on the "pinner" level it's impossible to kill the right one, since all your bullets go out of bounds in any case? A bit confused on that one
Thanks! Yeah it's the right one you need to kill. There should be a little bumper in the corner that will allow you to bounce the shots around if I'm thinking of the right level?
Thanks for playing though, much appreciated!
But how are you supposed to get there?
It looks out of plain sight of the left character.. Or am I missing something?
You can move with WASD, something I also didn't realize for a while.
Oh wow, that changes everything :D
Tbh, I think moving breaks the game - now I can just position the enemy so that I can hit them and they cannot hit me, and all the puzzle element is pretty much gone...
Would you be able to reupload this as an .exe file, or an HTML project?
Hey, I use C# so can't upload a web build. The .exe is contained in the zip, unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean?
Hmm, I typically try to run desktop games from the itch.io desktop client. I'm not sure how you would have to upload it to get that to work. I can test this out later, maybe someone who knows more than me about it would be able to advise
Making a guess here but I wonder if the build just needs to marked as windows exe? Since it's metadata, you can actually do that change right now, you just can't upload new stuff. A past jam I marked the wrong build as playable in browser but was free to change it anytime.
Hey, thanks for the tip! I hadn't realised it wouldn't show in the desktop app if I'd left the Windows box unchecked. I've ticked this on now, so hoping it appears in the app (though appreciate you've already played it, thanks for rolling with it anyway!) Good to know for future
