I thought "just one more before bed" and now it's 40 min later! Great job, all around! I wish it had gamepad controls and I was stupid sometimes, not realizing the doors with dangling keys were unlocked but it was well checkpointed so I never actually felt cheated. I liked this so much I almost forgot my one legit suggestion, make the collision ramps instead of stairs so the camera doesn't give me a headache going back up.
A really fun puzzle game with a great visual style that reminded me of the dithering that Obra Dinn uses. And what I was hoping to happen at the end did happen so that was really cool.
I have a few nit picks but they aren't anything that really ruined the experience. The audio of the doors was a little loud and when multiple doors are opening/closing the sfx can layer up. The orbs when dropped can sometimes be difficult to see if you're in an already bright area.
Overall a fun game :)
Graphically this one looked awesome, but alas, I couldn’t get past the menu screen, and my laptop monitor was too small for the resolution of this game… Any help please?
Hey, very sorry you are unable to play. Is the issue on web that it stalls on loading after pushing play? I can make a low-res specific version, too. What is your monitor resolution?
Here's a version scaled for 1280x720: https://maaack.itch.io/a-darkness-like-gravity-low-res-edition
Hope you get to experience the game.
WOW, that was awesome. I loved the shader (on the assets I believe?). The puzzles were challenging enough but not too difficult. A lot of polish went on this one, I can see.
Nice details at the end credits that you also credited Dawk and Linus haha. Good thinking, they deserve credit too!
I had some issues with the main menu, but once the game started I don't "think" I was missing anything. Felt really polished, though at times unclear what my goal was. I would wander around and get to a dungeon, but mechanically the dungeon didn't seem different than where I was, unless I was missing something. I loved throwing of the orbs mechanic.
Thanks for the feedback! If you found the special orb and brought it back, then you didn't miss anything. The 3 dungeons get progressively darker, requiring using the orbs/torches more for navigation, but the interaction mechanics don't change. I'm curious, what kinds of new mechanics did you hope the dungeons would have in store?
I'm glad the throwing felt good :-)
When I read dungeon I think I assume monsters, or some type of danger. Something to increase the urgency. Not combat in a puzzle game, but something that makes me feel an urgency.
Oh, good observation. I'm remembering now the dungeons are meant to introduce some of the first risk in the game, as you can miss a shot and need to restart. I wanted to avoid combat, too, but a sense of urgency could still be added. Puzzles could need to be solved in a certain time, doors could be on timers, etc. Thanks for the suggestions!
Would definitely wishlist on steam.

Update as of 4:30 PDT:
with all the mac issues going around I thought I would pull out the new Macbook Air M3 and give this a try. Chrome was a no-go beyond title screen, it just showed the focus dot but never loaded the halftoned shader. In Safari the game seems to load fine, but doesn't seem to capture the cursor correctly. In full screen this doesn't seem to impact gameplay too much though. I don't have FF or other browsers yet installed on this laptop. I have included the available screen resolutions for the MB Air 13" For you and would be happy to do testing for you in future (especially if you want to do mac builds)
Thanks for trying the game out on your stream! And for providing the results of testing on the Macbook and the different browsers, too! That is very helpful. There's probably at least a few things I can do to improve the compatibility.
can't get past the menu screen with firefox. can't touch the buttons, they don't register clicking. On Edge-browser I can see a dot and a black screen. nothing much else. music plays on background. :(
Thanks for reporting the issues and the browsers you were using. I will try debugging it. Does the downloaded version work any better?
I'm using Mac so it says for the executable that "Apple cannot check it for malicious software." I think it means there is no developer certificate attached to the executable software.
I tried Safari-browser too. same thing than with Firefox. buttons don't register clicking nor hovering over them.
It maybe something to do with shaders. As my game doesn't work with the shaders on on chrome-browsers. luckily my game has toggle for this and it is not game-breaking to not have them on. just an extra feature. It is maybe related to that firefox can handle the GLES shaders or something and other browsers do it different and crash.
I appreciate the follow up! Correct, I don't have a developer certificate. My understanding was that Macs give that message for a majority of downloadable itch.io games, but I haven't tried personally. It's very possible it's because of the shaders. I've been running it in Brave on Linux, but I will test other combos. Thanks again for trying it out!
Wow. I noticed a couple bugs, but nothing to stop me from rating this 5/5…
Oh, and I really like the ending.
Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you liked the ending, too :-)
Wow, graphics feels like I'm in the Manga world. Also unique game idea. Liked it!
This is such a large-scale game, and the puzzles are very nice. The audio and originality are stellar, but at times the mechanics were confusing.
Looks and plays amazing. That's it. Very "Return of the Obra Dinn"-y, hehe. Absolutely blown away by everythin, but particularly the visuals. Love them with passion!
The concept was interesting with all of the puzzle-solving albeit at times slightly confusing. The aesthetic was really cool and the art was pleasing. Good job on the game!
Hey I loved the aesthetic of this game. I got stuck trying to figure out how to get back up the cliff after getting the special orb, but I really enjoyed playing it!
Thanks for playing and sharing the feedback! My fault on making that puzzle too obtuse. Two places I could see getting stuck returning on the Cliff. First, the 3 orbs keeping the doors locked should now be reachable to you. Second, there is a trigger behind the second doors, visible from the sides, but easier to hit with a blind throw from the front. Hope that helps and you (and others) are able to reach the ending.
The retro aesthetic of this was refreshing and the music was great as well.
It took me a while to figure out that the piles of books had tutorials and to work out what exactly to do, but I had fun once I got things rolling
Really amazing and very much enjoyed it. Loved the look of it in that black and white sorta look it has. Don't know how to describe it. Found it fun to throw around the orbs and how it snaps it to spot. Could see this being a full game. Loved it great job. Amazing.
Really cool visual style of course. A full game in this style where each location is a different monochrome color would be awesome!
Funny you should suggest that; different monochrome colors for zones/dungeons were originally planned, and the shader supports it, but it fell out of scope for this game. I agree though, it'd look cool in the right game.
It could be like a 3D version of those old 8-bit games from the 1980s/90s. A forest could be green only. Nighttime could be RGB(0, 0.5, 1.0) :)
