love the audio
Yeah it is good. It is made by https://jdsherbert.itch.io/minigame-music-pack . you should check it out if you like it because there are a lot more good ones
Nice puzzle game. Graphics were a little basic but fit with the chalk board motif. Played through all the levels and really liked that you made so many and had those challenge levels at the end that incorporated all the elements. Oh and the introductory/explanations were excellent and really gave it that polished feel.
One critique is that the wildcard seemed to be more relevant then the theme. Maybe it is because you kept saying teaching instead of training - probably I am just be nitpicky here - really liked it so thank you for submitting.
Thanks for playing. I am not an artist so I lean heavily on simple art and try not to get too hung up on it. I can only focus on so much as a solo dev.
You are absolutely right the wild card is more relevant than the theme and that is 110% intentional. 1) Two of the wild cards were suggestions I had the won the vote so I wanted to heavily use them. With this I find GWJ wild cards typically more interesting than just the theme as it requires working around more constraints. 2) I didn't want to make just another game set on a train like I knew most entries would be. 3) Using the word "teach" of "train" was intentional as well. I original had the type saying "train" but it didn't flow as nicely and felt very forced. I decided on more natural language. The original concept was more focused on a book/training guide but after I did the art and they looked like chalk drawings I figured I would lean more heavily on that concept and go with a chalkboard/classroom style theme.
This is my favourite game so far, and I've played through a good number. It has the perfect balance of progression and frustration. The tutorials are perfect too.
Really nice puzzler. Solid entry.
Fun little puzzler, nicely done, would definitely play more.
Cute puzzle!!
Nice puzzles with a lot of mechanics. I liked the explanations before each puzzle. Great game!
Many and cool implemented mechanics. I usually have hard times with games like this, but with the nice intros and the moderate difficulty of levels, I were able to solve the puzzles and had my fun. Maybe the only improvement I see would be more music. The graphics, controls and accessibility were nice! I am not quite sure what the “theme” is here? Maybe training myself to manage the levels? Anyway, I had my fun and it is well done!
The connection to the theme is that it is a class on learning to catch frogs, so essentially training you. As for music, I try not to spend too much time on it as its not the core aspect of the game. I try to just find some background music to fit the theme and keep it to that. I would rather focus on the game loop than having a large soundtrack.
Thanks for playing and I hope you enjoyed it!
ah nice then I got the theme right!
Very casual and some well designed levels! Every level there are new content and more challenges. Very impressive!
This is a nice fun relaxing game with so much content
I really like the aesthetics of this one with the hand drawn chalk figures and everything. The puzzles make you think out your next moves which is great, and the mushroom powerup was a nice touch. I thought you were supposed to avoid it until I realized it's necessary for solving some puzzles. Reminds me a little of Baba is You too. Great work!
Excellent entry!! I loved the blackboard and chalk art. Really cool and unique idea. It was a lot of fun solving the puzzles. I was surprised by the number of mechanics and puzzles you were able to implement. Great job!
Cool game! Congrats on delivering with so much content.
I got confused when I saw the red and blue bushes because I thought that the boy couldn't get hurt by the pink bushes and vice versa.
Also, I think I found an unexpected solution to this level:
Is this game about "training", is that how your game fits the theme?
There are actually multiple solutions to the puzzles mostly unintentional though I couldn't test for everything. Part of the fun is finding ways to solve the puzzle and I like the solutions people come up with.
As for the theme yeah the idea is its a class/training on how to be a frog finder. It is a stretch I know but I really wanted to use the frog and companion wild cards as much as possible and this is what I came up with. I had the idea for a puzzle game about finding frogs and worked in the idea of it being a lesson towards the end.
Great cozy puzzle game! I really liked the progression of the game. Every level introduced another puzzle mechanic. Design of the puzzles were really cool and difficulty was well balanced. Had great time playing it well done!
Great puzzle Game. The art really worked for me as well, love the chalk aesthetic.
Chill little game! It's a simple idea but well executed. Nice job.
great job, I love that some of the puzzles felt more open ended like you created rules and some times puzzles could be solved in different ways. Really fun :D
This game is really fun, the music is very calming, and the mushrooms are a very interesting! I think I found a bug once where the characters merged, but I don't know what caused it, so it must not happen often!
Yeah the characters merging isn't supposed to happen. I thought I tracked down all the bugs causing it but you found one. Nice job! :)
Thank you for playing and I hope you enjoyed it
Wow! Nice puzzles with a lot of mechanics that are introduced very nicely!
I enjoyed the drawing style and the background music.
The "train" theme was original and focus on the frog wildcard appreciated :-)
Thanks for playing and I am glad you enjoyed it!
Super cute game with a surprising amount of depth, possibly my favorite in the jam so far.
The mechanics are introduced in a well-paced manner. The reversing mushroom is probably my least favorite because its a little disorienting. The graphics are so-so, but the audio and music are superb.
Admittedly it took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out how it fit the theme ( /_ \)
Yeah the mushroom is my least favorite as well which is why I avoided using it as much as possible outside of a few levels. The problem with the puzzle design is it felt very limiting in what I could make due concept that both characters move. The mushroom inverting one allowed more interesting, but complicated, puzzle design. As I got better at making puzzles though I found other ways around it. I had a few more puzzles but didn't include them to keep the game a good time length. After the jam I plan on publishing a full version.
