Cozy game, but I got softlocked...
Played today while live!!

Very well polished game! I had a few notes (sorry if others have said the same already):

  • It would be nice to see the score as the game goes, so the player has some way of knowing how they are doing.
  • I noticed a bit of lag during the traffic phase. I was playing on WebGL, and I saw it starting probably around 30 houses, for reference.
  • A straight line tool would make road phase a lot quicker/more comfortable to the player.
  • I found the rules about road-placing somewhat confusing. I didn't understand why I couldn't have roads which curved around houses (though I'm sure there is a good reason I shouldn't be allowed to do this).
  • I think the game might be more intense if everything was happening at the same time, rather than in phases -- so the player has to react with reflexes and can't spend as much time planning everything.
  • Strategy-wise, different kinds of roads/buildings might be helpful to giving the player more choices to make; for example, a highway-type road, which can't connect to buildings but doubles car speed, or a high-density building (like an apartment) which will have twice as many cars in/out of it. Choices/info like this will enable players to develop more complex strategies, if that is the route you wish to go.

Overall very well done! I noticed you are considering a full release -- good luck, I'm sure it will be great!

This was really fun... I found out I struggle a lot with moving the mouse in a straight line lol But I really enjoyed it! It does get a bit repetitive over time.

Developer

I might turn this into a full release, If you have any suggestions that would make the game more fun,  more strategic, and more replayable, please let me know!

Really liked the music and art style. It did get a bit repetitive and it would have been nice to introduce a new vehicle type of structure that changed up the gameplay a little. It did play well with no issues. Overall good job

22993!! Man, I loved that game! There was something extremely cute and satisfying about seeing all the cars come out and make their way to their destination! Nice job!

A really well designed game keeping in view the neccesties of art and visuals.

Loved the dark and lighting effects, idea was also simple and sticks to the theme.

Keep up the good work

Be sure to check mine :]

Reminds me of Mini Motorways, but its interesting that the cars don't interact with each other - maybe if you were scored not only on number of roads but also how long it takes cars to go from place to place? So you'd have to balance using fewer roads with creating optimal paths between each house. Just a thought. Great submission!

Like the idea of your game and how it fits the theme ! I had fun playing this ! (reading the comments i'm so mad about my score ahah which was around 9k)

The game looks and feels great, however I am kind of missing the challenge in it. Sure it's satisfying to see the cars make their way around town, but really up until the very end of the game, there's no consequences for missing cars, no resources that you need to keep track of or any other constraint that you need to keep in mind. I think this is a really solid foundation, but I'd love to see some more mechanics added to make it into a proper game. Also I think there's a bug in your "cars cancelled" tracker, because I definitely had a few cars cancelled, but at the end of the game it said that I never had any car get cancelled. Still, nicely done and I hope you keep working on it!

Good game! I really liked the sound design and the art style

Overall a Good Submission

Very unique and interesting way of approach  the theme. The esthetic is perfect, and the mechanic seems so well done.  I would love to see a full game with this system.

A cute little game, very satisfying to watch! Reminds me of mini-metro / motorways, games I really like! However, yeah, I guess there is not much planning/strategy needed. (I get that it is hard to add a lot of systems in a jam). But maybe a simple way to add it would be: longest travel time for a car = score (where making this short is good), or like average travel time of the cars? A more complicated system could be road capacity or some traffic system thing. But who has time for that! Anyway, I think the art and general atmosphere were great, and I played through lots of days! I especially liked the car sprite, and it's semi-3d turning animations. Great touch!

Very polished game with a cohesive and beautiful art style! I'm not sure what strategy to follow so I ended up placing roads randomly just to have everything connected together, it was very satisfying seeing all the little cars go vroom vroom tho.

I love the concept. The game feels polished and the style and music is also great. I'd love to see more levels with obstacles or other challanges. The only problem I've got is that I couldn't focus on looking at the traffic and improving roads becaouse I was looking for disconnected houses. It would be nice to have some indication on where are those houses. I've also read below that the end is when no more houses can spawn. I didn't know that so it would be cool to have it mensioned somewhere visible like at the end game screen. Overall I like the game and I'd like to see this game in a full release.

Developer( 1)

ive been getting a lot of similar feedback and its making me want to turn the game into a full release with all of those feedback implemented. especially the disconnected indicator haha

Looks surprisingly polished for a game jam! I did get lost on what to do even with the tutorials especially on the cars getting stuck, but otherwise cool!

Love this concept.  Level balance would be nice--more houses at the start, additional levels with obstacles or other "challenges", and give a score per level.  I'd really like to know if it is worth it to spend one road to connect loops, for example.  I had a couple levels with cancelled cars but I couldn't tell where they were before the next building phase.
Nighttime is hard to see/build on, as well as the text over the gameplay area.

Overall, one of the few games from the jam I'm actually going to replay a couple times!  Very satisfying gameplay.

I played a second time, this time really looking to min/max the efficiency.  Once I realized the rule for building spawn, the endgame becomes keeping areas clear enough to spawn houses in with the limited 8 destroys.  If there was a better way to know how the score is added round after round, I'd know if it was "worth it" to control spawns at the start with road pieces.  I'm tempted to try this to get a "perfect" town and see what the max score is. :D  Overall its actually a very simple but interesting puzzle concept.

Played a third time and yes, you can make an almost "perfect" town (a grid of buildings every other square)  by seeding the first level with a grid of roads and then uncovering valid spawn points.  Using this method I got this final score:

143/155,  63,506, 10 seconds

Can anyone beat it?

Developer (1 edit)

woah congrats to your dedication! Ive my highest score is like 32k or something, well done! This is giving me motivation to maybe turn this is into a full release with more in depth mechanics

This game ideal is so cool and it fits the theme really well. I just sat here and played for like 20 minutes it was that fun and satisfying. I think what people are saying below I agree with that some more feedback or encouragement on what your doing to improve would be good and give a goal. Other than that really amazing work!

This is very polished and well made! I think it would be more interesting with some more strategy.

It's very satisfying to watch the cars reach their destination. I think I would have preferred more feedback on how well I was doing while building the city. Something like always showing average travel time per phase and the expected value for each star. It would give a goal to reach whil trying to optimize the road usage.
