Game description
Time to play in secret on your secret handheld console while everybody's asleep...

You’ve just defeated the boss of the area and are ready to set sail for new horizons. However, according to the official game guide, there are still a few secrets left to uncover on this island before moving on... including a secret character to join your party!

Hope you enjoy this short, old-school RPG experience!

Just a tip: the game gets pretty tricky if you don’t get rid of the fatigue accumulated during combat. Don’t forget to use items like Tonic or Elixir!

(Designed to be played with a gamepad)

Note: Details of the changes made after the deadline to fix critical bugs preventing the game from being completed are included in the README file. We changed only the strictly necessary, as you can check comparing git commits!

Theme interpretation
We felt nostalgic for those nights spent uncovering secrets in our favorite RPGs with the help of the official guide. Plus, the story itself revolves around a few secrets here and there.

I didn't manage to look at the game guide below that handheld device. I tried to poke around a little but that 'Y' button only make me a a tiny  tiny hop that didn't help reached very far. In the end I got clubbed to death by an enemy (bugbear? bearbarian?) that do play way too many times compared to my heroes.

I like the character designs but I don't think they blend too well in the world, which has way stronger shadows and non flat textures. The music sounds nice but is there some kind of muffling effect on top of it? I think I'd like it more if there weren't.

Sorry about the input system issue... I had to disable the real-world camera movement at the last minute. Originally, you could look around the room and explore the game’s official guide. I also tried to make the music sound like it was coming from the speakers of a portable console, though I understand it might be a bit distracting. Thank you so much for your feedback and for giving the game a try!

Really charming game with some outstanding artwork. The gameplay kind of reminds me of FFX. I like the central premise of playing it on a console but the tinniness of the music and sound effects did get a little grating over time. I feel like the combat is really really hard and long. I feel like that could have been tuned a bit. I might be bad at the game but I was taking 5 real time minutes per fight and the bearman were hitting me 2 times per player turn. I kind of gave up after my third fight after finding the cthonic spirit and talking to the nuns. I do like the dialogue too it feels comedic and like the game is filled with secrets and details. I feel like the art style and level of complexity and depth are amazing for a single month and there is a lot of cleverness in heart in this game.

Thank you so much for playing! It’s an honor that you compared it to one of my favorite games! Battles weren’t supposed to be that long, but that’s on me for not implementing a tutorial to explain the fatigue system (every action builds up fatigue, which doesn’t reset after combat unless you rest or use a Tonic/Elixir). That’s why enemies were attacking twice per turn. I’ll have everything fixed for the post-jam version. I hope you’ll give it another try! Thanks again for your feedback!

I really enjoy the vibe of this game. As someone who has collected those sort of walkthrough/cheat books in the past for games like mario, this was kind of a nostalgic journey for me!

The graphics were remarkably increediblyyyyyyy good! The camera and character movement were slightly wonky in my experience, but it kind of adds to the old-school vibe.

Thank you so much for playing and leaving a comment! My intention was for the controls to have an old-school feel, but I agree that I could’ve polished the character controller a bit more. At the last minute, I ran into an issue with the input system and had to disable the real-world camera control, but originally, you could explore the guide and follow it to uncover the game’s secrets. In the post-jam version, it will work as intended. Thanks again!

Tried desperately to get do something other than talk to the robed person at the start, pressed every button on the keyboard and couldn't do anything besides walk around. The screenshots and overall style look amazing, i wish i could have experienced the rest of the game.

Sorry to hear you weren't able to explore the game! If you'd like to give it another try, there's actually a small path leading out of the starting area. Now I see that it might not be easy to spot, so I will guide players better in the next version. Thank you for your feedback and vote!
