The principal is too stronk, plz nerf.
As you are fixing bugs for a post jam update I wanted to mention that the minimap was not showing to me (and returning to the classroom crashed the game as mentioned already
My full impression will follow in video form later on :)
That was really enjoyable. There's so much heart in this.
The way we're thrown into this established world really made it feel like an early game section of a full game that I'd play.
I was surprised to discover clicking on the map moves you there. Cool feature.
The music was great too. Everything was great. Nice work.
An interesting blend of gridder, VN and jrpg(ish) mechanics. It's a wonder you got to do all this in one week, especially the VN part (not the engine, but the content of it). Very well done!
I played this a little, but I also watch scalpha's play thru.
There's a lot of words. WOOOORDS.
Reading: The Game
Which is fine. These girls are very relational. They have feelings other than hunger and thirst. I get it.
Well made game. Good job.
Didn't care for the physical abuse misogyny there.
Love it, nothing bad to say at all! Graphics, gameplay, story and atmosphere are on point! I am curious how you interpreted the theme?
Ayo! Writer here! We wanted to go the route of the duality having to do with the magical girl's alter egos, as well as The Corruption implied to being something that brings out the worse in people. Due to time, we didn't finish the magical girl transformations and from that the interpretation of the theme may get a little more muddled but after the jam, we hope to add that into the game!
Thank you for asking!
Loved the music and visual style! Had to restart because I didn't know about saving until I lost to the boss, but it was still a very pleasant experience!
Very cute, got a few bugs (sprites for the characters dont appear, if you take wrong door at the start, game exit ??) but it was short and sweet! I'm curious about what engine you used for this, did you make it yourself ? Great work for everyone involved anyway!
Thank you for playing and for pointing out the crashing bug when re-entering the classroom where the game intro begins. I've fixed that crash along with a few other minor issues and will upload a new build after the judging period ends. Can you give more details on the missing character sprites or post a screenshot of the issue?
This jam entry was created with C# and the Monogame framework without using a commercial engine by mashing up the JRPG combat system from Robot Magic with the 1st person dungeon crawling view from Ponsona(which was also based on Robot Magic)
The sprite is not entirely missing but the fade in, that makes them appear is very very slow. As a result they will be only displayed on longer scenes, I can take a video tonight if you need more than the description. Very interesting for the engine you're using!
Is the sprite fade-in duration about 25 seconds in length? And if so, does changing your Windows region setting to English fix the issue? I suspect the issue is that the dialogue scripts have the character portraits fade in over 0.25 seconds (1/4 second) but in regions where a comma is used as a decimal separator this value gets parsed as 25 seconds. Thank you again for noticing this issue and giving feedback!
Such a fun game, gives me old RPG maker game vibes, I liked it a lot
In case you've got a clue, when I try to launch the game I get the logo then I'm stuck on a black screen, with no sound. The game still seems to run, and running it through a command prompt gives no message.
The game asked me to install .NET 6.0 Desktop Runtime the first time I launched the game, and I guess I did, at least it does not ask anymore.
This is probably some kind of file permission or access issue while trying to find or create save files in a local user directory. Do you see a folder located at C:/Users/{username}/AppData/local/EtrianLike/Save ?
Thanks, that helped and may even help a few others. I got there, saw a "," in the settings file and realized it was a number format thing, I switched my region and date format to England, deleted the save folder and it worked.
Leaving aside my disdain for school settings, the game was great. The combat system and gfx are good and the controls and presentation are perfectly legible and fluent, congratulations.
