Today we conclude the presentation of the finalists of the 2024 challenge. Here's what Aurora, team leader of GOOGLE'S WORLD WONDERS PROJECT, told us. The project aims to publish on the Internet World Heritage sites, including the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in partnership with organisations such as UNESCO and the World Monuments Fund. The project offers innovative educational resources for students and scholars, allowing them to virtually explore the sites through panoramic images and 3D models, as well as providing access to videos, photos and historical information on each site.

Today we introduce you to the Minerva project! The team leader Lorenzo Bonati explained to us the idea presented at this year's challenge dedicated to spatial data for the protection of UNESCO heritage. The project's objective is to assess the efficiency of conservation treatments applied to stone works using specimens of different materials and finishes exposed to the atmosphere. This monitoring, integrated with atmospheric data from the Copernicus programme, enables the deterioration of the treatment and the material itself to be assessed, providing crucial indications for the choice of the most suitable restoration treatments. Furthermore, the project allows for accurate predictions of future deterioration, providing the Veneto Region with guidelines for the maintenance of monuments during periods of reduced tourist influx. This reduces economic damage to the region. Watch the video!

In this edition of the challenge, many team leaders were women. Today we listen to Benedetta for the “Heritage Preservation” project. The “Heritage Preservation” project has been developed with the objective of preserving UNESCO sites in the Veneto region, which are crucial to the region's identity and tourism revenues. Using spatial data from Galileo and Copernicus, it aims to sustainably manage tourism-related water consumption, anticipating and addressing possible emergencies. The creation of a frequently updated interactive map is proposed, encouraging tourists to distribute themselves fairly over the territory. The project could begin with the Prosecco Hills and then extend to the entire region, with the addition of a mobile application to assist with holiday planning.

Our challenge this year had a fairly complex theme but which offered countless solutions. Today we present "ANTONELLO" “Antonello” project proposes the development of a mobile app to assist with the management of tourism in Venice. The app will provide information on the city's monuments and works of art, creating customised routes for visitors. It will use satellite data to monitor tourist flows and weather conditions, facilitating more responsible tourism management. This approach aims to diversify tourist flows and improve the visitor experience, while contributing to the preservation of Venice's cultural heritage.

Good Morning! Today we discover Water in Prosecco Hills! The project has been designed to address the issue of water management in the Prosecco hills, an important topic in the Veneto region. Due to increasing tourism and climate change, the demand for water is growing, putting pressure on winegrowers. To address this challenge, we propose to educate farmers on the efficient use of water and to implement solutions such as water filtration and drip irrigation. Our goal is to work with local communities on a long-term basis to minimise water waste and respect local traditions.
