  • 𝑱𝒖𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒆 𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆! 📣 Start with the review by 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶, Matteo Martini, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗹ò, Lorenzo Cecchi, 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲, 𝗟𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗼, 𝗘𝗻𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗮 and Paola Rogliani about the controversy topic of #immunotherapy in case of allergy to #cats and #dogs. In #Italy, the prevalence of allergic sensitization to cats and dogs is 16% and 9%, respectively. There is a limited standardization of allergenic #extracts, especially for dogs, contributing to the 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 of traditional #allergen immunotherapy (AIT), AIT with modified allergens, and #intralymphatic allergen-specific immunotherapy (ILAIT). Emerging immunological approaches are limited due to high #costs.

  • 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗱 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮, Yulia Petryk Petryk, Soledad San Román Sirvent, 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼, 𝗔𝗻𝗮 𝗜𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗘𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿, Juan Carlos Miralles López and 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁í𝗻𝗲𝘇 presented a case of a 40-year-old woman with #anaphylactic reactions after eating #fruit and other plant-#foods due to sensitization to non specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTP). Her diagnose was LTP-syndrome. This protein is the main #pannallergen in #Portugal and causes crossed reaction to multiple #plant foods. Immediate reaction to SLIT in the fourth month of maintenance-dose led us to interrupt #immunotherapy. Immediate reaction to #omalizumab in the fourth dose in hospital prompted us to switch to #dupilumab. After four months the doctors reintroduced 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 with pru 𝗽𝟯 𝗦𝗟𝗜𝗧-𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵® achieving maintenance dose of four #drops a day with no clinical reactions.

  • #Pain and #fear are common #concerns of #children who receive 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 (SCIT), a potential disease-modifying #therapy effective for treatment of various allergic #disorders. The purpose of 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿, 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗶𝗲𝗿, 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗲, 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼 and Ejaz Yousef MD FAAAI was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of three marketed distraction devices: ➡ #ShotBlocker®; ➡#Buzzy® I with only #vibration; ➡ Buzzy® II vibration and #ice; and 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝘆𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 spray in control group. The study concluded that there were 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 #𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 #𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 and between the control group.

  • 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 Ş𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗹, 𝗠𝗲𝗵𝗺𝗲𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝘆𝗶𝗸, Ezgi Topyıldız, 𝗔𝘆ş𝗲 𝗔𝘆𝗴ü𝗻, 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗚ü𝗹𝗲𝗻 and 𝗘𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗲 aimed to analyze the factors that can affect the #tolerance or #persistence of #egg #allergy recruiting 126 IgE-mediated egg allergic patients. Demographic and laboratory data were recorded #retrospectively. ➡ 64.2% had gained tolerance with a median survival time of 48 months ➡ 22.2% of these patients gained tolerance in the first 2 years of life ➡ 46.8% in 2-6 years ➡ 3.1% between 7-12 years. Higher levels of egg sIgE, 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and #anaphylaxis at onset or during oral #food challenge, can give #hint about persistence of egg allergy.

  • The aim of the study of 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝘀, 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿í𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗼, 𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗿 𝗭𝗲𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗳 et al. (*) was to evaluate the association between the #asthma risk factors and the prevalence of asthma in a population of Brazilian #adults. #Sedentarism, #overweight and #obesity may be related to the prevalence of asthma in an 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 #𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗹. Such factors could be modified and better understood through multidisciplinary #research and #health programs that evaluate the risk factors for asthma in large populations. • 📢 For the first post of the 🅼🅰🆈 🅸🆂🆂🆄🅴 we present you the comprehensive review article signed by Joana Filipe Ribeiro and 𝗖𝗹á𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗮. It sheds light on the potential of #probiotics and #prebiotics as promising therapeutic interventions in the management of #food allergy. This article highlights the 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 in the management of #cow's milk allergy (CMA) and #peanut oral #immunotherapy (OI). Extensively 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 supplemented with 𝘓𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘙𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘶𝘴 GG has also shown positive outcomes in: ✅ accelerating tolerance acquisition; ✅ alleviating gastrointestinal symptoms; ✅ preventing other allergic manifestations in CMA. Furthermore, the review emphasizes the 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 with 𝘓𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘙𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘶𝘴 CGMCC 1.3724 in inducing sustained desensitization in peanut OI. However, the use of probiotics for the prevention of food allergy 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, while the use of #oligosaccharides from #breast milk in early infancy appears to be beneficial for preventing atopic #dermatitis, food allergy and #asthma. These findings provide important insights for further research and clinical applications, highlighting the potential of probiotics and prebiotics in preventing and managing food allergies. Further studies are needed to determine the optimal probiotic type, dosage, and duration of supplementation.

  • It is well known that asthmatic #patients undergoing administration of 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 (ICM) have an increased risk of potentially severe #bronchospasm. It has been shown that the most important risk factor for bronchospasm is represented by a 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. Therefore, an accurate clinical evaluation of asthmatics (especially those with a relevant degree of #asthma severity) should be recommended, before ICM administration. #Guidelines shared by #pulmonologists, #allergists and #radiologists should be developed in the future for a better #evaluation and #management of these patients. • D-dimer and C-RP #serum levels are sensitive #biomarkers for 𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 (CSU) activity, but their 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲 does not seem to increase their #sensitivity in detecting higher #disease activity. Nevertheless, Maria Vieira Relvas, 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗮, 𝗔𝗻𝗮 𝗟𝘂í𝘀𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘀, 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 and Margarida Goncalo could not explain the 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗-𝗱𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖-𝗥𝗣 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 in around one-third of their patients, which do not clearly correlate with the two main #pathomechanisms recognized in CSU. • Laura Sánchez Romero, 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝗢𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼, María González Rivas, 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝗟𝗼𝗷𝗼, 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝗻𝘇á𝗹𝗲𝘇-𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗮 and 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗹 investigated the #prevalence of Der p 23 #sensitization (𝘋𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘺𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘴) and its relation to #asthma in a population of house dust mites (HDM)-allergic patients. Prevalence of sensitization and levels of sIgE were analyzed according to asthma #diagnosis and asthma #severity. Asthma was more 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗜𝗴𝗘 against Der p 23 than in patients without this sensitization. A tendency to increase both total IgE and sIgE was observed in relation to the severity of asthma from intermittent 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗺𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗺𝗮, but a substantial decrease in total IgE and sIgE was detected in more severe asthmatics.
