A great article with some scary numbers but some inspiring challenges. The challenge of re-using our existing building stock will take a lot of designers out of their comfort zone but personally I find that sort of challenge provides much greater satisfaction in the long run. Even if we do need to add some elements to reinforce existing buildings to increase their floor area or change their it is far better in the long run than full scale demolition and re-build.

This is a fascinating article - and open access. The positive impact #biophilia can have in achieving the optimal performance between people, technology and work space, is tangible. Beyond that, it can be strategy to help attract and retain talent. Great read for anyone managing facilities and work place.

Great study on biophilic architecture and the relationship to people’s health. Congratulations Cleo Valentine et al on this paper! 🏦 🌿 With increasing research and evidence on the profound impact that places have on people, it’s clear that urban health and wellbeing should be central to the way places are being designed and shaped today. There is so much potential for positive impact, with biophilic approaches bringing benefits for both people and ecological wellbeing. And really exciting to see this convergence of architecture and neuroscience happening at my alma mater University of Cambridge! “Biophilic design refers to spatial designs that either integrate live organic material or imitate patterns found in nature. Biophilic design has received increasing attention in the architectural design and health fields due to its positive associations with stress reduction. A number of studies have measured the impact of biophilic design on physiological stress using clinical biomarkers such as blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate increases, skin conductance and body temperature, salivary cortisol, and neurological activity “ #CompassionatePlaces #Neuroarchitecture #Designforwellbeing #HealthyCities #BiophilicDesign #UrbanHealth

https://lnkd.in/eNT3EJCa An amazing week with amazing people. Thank you Cagliari and the ILS for this opportunity! This year's debate concerned the Innovative Learning Spaces: Inside Out Schools. Thus, how can we bring educational spaces outside of schools, and how can we integrate the city to the inside of these schools? An exciting topic that should always be present in our day-to-day when considering urban planning, architecture and education.

🚀Innovation project result: Tallinn Tests Muon Tomography! 🏛️ City of Tallinn has successfully piloted a groundbreaking project using muon tomography to non-destructively survey the interiors of municipal buildings Vabaduse väljak 7 and Raekoja plats 12. As part of the #TestinTallinn project, GScan advanced muon scanner system provided detailed data on the internal geometry and potential defects of these structures. 🛠️ Project Highlights: Duration: January - February Technology Used: GScani's muon scanner system with specially produced hodoscopes Scope: Surveyed load-bearing structures, exterior walls, basements, roof spaces, and ventilation shafts Outcome: Demonstrated functionality in operational buildings without disrupting daily activities 📈 Impact: "With more accurate initial information, engineers can investigate situations more thoroughly and make more informed decisions in managing the city's assets," said project manager Sander Sein. 🔍 Future Plans: GScani aims to further develop this technology for integration into the city's building management processes. #Innovation #testintallinn #smarttallinn #Tallinn #SmartCity 🏗️💡
