Reflecting on my recent visit to the Van Gogh exhibition through the lens of an architect 🌻 As an architect, I'm constantly inspired by the intersection of art and design, seeking creativity in all its forms. So, when I had the chance to immerse myself in the world of Vincent Van Gogh's art at a recent exhibition, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Walking through the gallery, I found myself drawn not only to Van Gogh's mesmerizing brushstrokes but also to the architectural elements within his compositions. His use of perspective, light, and space captivated me, offering a new lens through which to appreciate his work. One particular aspect that resonated with me was Van Gogh's depiction of buildings and landscapes. Through his bold use of color and texture, he brought these architectural forms to life, infusing them with a sense of dynamism and emotion that transcends mere representation. As an architect, I couldn't help but admire Van Gogh's ability to capture the essence of his subjects with such depth and intensity. His paintings serve as a reminder of the power of design to evoke emotion and create meaningful experiences for those who inhabit or interact with our built environment. Leaving the exhibition, I felt not only inspired but also reaffirmed in my belief in the profound connection between art and architecture. The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin is on the move: Over the next few years, it will be developed into an open and integrated research museum: During ongoing operations, the museum will be renovated in several phases and the scientific collection objects will be further developed and made even more accessible. Since June 11, large transport boxes have been stacked at four locations along the exhibition tour and provide information about the so-called Future Plan. This plan includes the new concept for the impressive dinosaur hall, based on the designs by gmp, which are also displayed there. In 2023, gmp won the competition for the museum’s conversion and extension. The aim of the competition was to renovate the listed ensemble and the outdoor facilities in an inclusive and barrier-free manner, to refurbish them according to historical preservation standards and expand them with new spaces for exhibitions, collections and research. The design by gmp, together with Rainer Schmidt | landscape architects urban planners, includes the roofing of the two inner courtyards, allowing for the restructuring of visitor facilities, among other things. New Social Value for an Abandoned Museum – part 2/2 Here’s a video to accompany the #Transition… in the new year! 🎊 Key issues of my refurbishment project for the Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires in Paris (described in this post 👉 https://lnkd.in/erBKv7J9) are summarized in just 50 seconds.⏱ 💡 The concept metaphorically reinterprets the building as a lighthouse, where the water basin and the light compositions of the electrochromic façade become elements of connection with the vessel-like architecture of the Fondation Louis Vuitton. 🌊 The vocation of lighthouses is to be a reference point in the darkness, helping navigators find a safe route through rough seas. In a world of increasing complexity and undergoing profound changes, the trajectories that we’re defining today are crucial to face societal, cultural, climatic, and environmental challenges. 📽 The video presents how a comprehensive approach in architecture and engineering can reshape existing building heritage by synergistically combining sustainability, historical and cultural references, environmental awareness, and social inclusion, from the urban masterplan to technical details.
