Over the last ten years, we've proudly sponsored French navigator and engineer Benoit Marie from Nantes. Benoît specializes in foiling boats and has won major international races, including the Mini Transat in 2013 and Moth International as a Double French champion in 2018. This year, we're very happy to support Benoît and his teammate, Caroline Boule, a French and Polish engineer and scientist who joined his team in 2023. ⛵🌍 Benoît and Caroline are an excellent and complementary team. In the last year, they have achieved many milestones together, including Caroline becoming the first woman to cross the Atlantic in a fully foiled boat and, most recently, breaking the 24-hour record for the longest distance in a Mini boat—the first woman to achieve this! 👏🏅 Foiling boats use underwater wings to lift their hulls out of the water, reducing drag and increasing speed and efficiency. The technology behind foils, similar to how aircraft wings generate lift, demonstrates a fascinating link between sailing and aviation and why we have a special connection to this project. 🌊✈️ We admire how Benoît and Caroline push the boundaries in their field and look forward to the rest of their 2024 racing season. We're thrilled to announce the opening of our 10th base in France, located in the city of Rodez! This expansion follows our successful bid to operate the PSO route from Rodez-Aveyron to Paris Orly, which we were officially awarded this week. The new base will open in September, with flights starting September 2nd. We will base one aircraft at the airport to operate two daily flights from Monday to Friday and one flight on Sundays. This will provide 60,000 seats across 380 flights until December 2024, and for 2025, we anticipate offering 178,000 seats across approximately 1,140 flights. ✈️ This will be our 8th route from Paris Orly, joining our connections to Bilbao, Ancona, Genoa, Olbia, Turin, Verona, and Lourdes. It is also our second PSO route to Paris Orly, with the first being our connection with Lourdes, which we've been operating efficiently since 2022. This development shows our dedication to the Occitania region, boosting the local economy and improving connectivity through domestic flights within France and international routes in Europe. We’re pleased to announce our agreement with Repsol, who will supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for our flights operated from airports in Spain until 2029. Through this partnership, Repsol will provide us with over 6 million liters of SAF between 2025 and 2029, contributing to reducing CO2 emissions from our operations. ✈️ SAF is produced from renewable resources such as vegetable oils and other organic materials, making it vital to reducing aviation’s carbon footprint. In terms of its lifecycle (from production to consumption), it can cut CO2 emissions by approximately 80% compared to conventional kerosene. The new agreement with Repsol harnesses these SAF benefits and supports the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation regulation, which requires a 2% SAF blend starting in 2025. Our Founder and CEO, Carlos Muñoz, met with Repsol's General Director of Clients, Valero Marín, at the company's offices in Madrid to formalize the agreement. This partnership reflects our ongoing efforts to integrate sustainable practices and aligns with the aviation sector's broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This commitment was on full display yesterday in Bilbao, where we hosted the first edition of the Volotea Blues Challenge, sponsoring the event as part of the Bilbao Blues Festival to showcase talented blues musicians. 🎶   Our Senior Marketing Manager, Pietro Cassitta, was present at the event to present the award to the winners. Congratulations to the Tòfol Martínez Blues Band on winning this edition and earning the opportunity to represent Spain at the European Blues Challenge 2025 in Split, Croatia. Last week, our CEO/Founder, Carlos Muñoz, participated in a lecture organized by Club Empresarial ICADE in Madrid. Surrounded by entrepreneurs and executives from various sectors, many of whom were his friends and former classmates from Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICAI-ICADE, Carlos had the opportunity to share key moments from his professional journey. 💼 He discussed his entry into the aviation industry with his first project, Vueling, in late 2002 and the opportunity behind Volotea—to connect small and medium-sized European cities, home to 65% of the population. Carlos also noted that we're at a pivotal moment in the aviation sector, with the potential IAG and Air Europa merger on the horizon, positioning Volotea as a possible remedy. This merger could solidify Madrid's status as a hub and reinforce Spain's reputation as a prime destination. He also shared some invaluable tips for entrepreneurship and success: always start with a good opportunity; it's crucial to raise large amounts of capital at the beginning; good partners and a talented team are key elements; and always persevere, persevere, and do the right thing. 💡 Thank you to Club Empresarial ICADE for the invitation and the opportunity for Carlos to share his insights and experience.
