We are excited to share that the collaborative efforts of the Università degli Studi di Bari, CNR Bari, KU Leuven, and Tethis S.p.A have resulted in the development of a new method for isolating and characterizing single circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from the blood of cancer patients. This innovative method, published in PlosONE (https://lnkd.in/dd94sq-z), utilizes Tethis nanocoated Smart BioSurface slides, laser capture microdissection, and subsequent whole genome amplification, offering promising applications in the field of cancer research and treatment. Watch the interview (https://lnkd.in/d3UgEP9K) featuring Prof. Clelia Tiziana Storlazzi and Dr. Roberta Carbone providing a detailed description of the protocol for this single cell-based approach, further highlighting the significance of this research in advancing our understanding of CTCs. Chi siamo
At Tethis we aim to make liquid biopsy a standard, reproducible, oncology diagnostic. Our proprietary slides allow immediate, fully automated and gentle processing of blood samples, three unaddressed elements that are crucial to ensure standardization and to maintain clinical informativity. High throughput analytical protocols are then performed for highly sensitive and specific blood-based cancer testing in different clinical settings.

We would like to inform that Dr. Nadia Prisant and colleagues from the Pathology Institute of Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer Medical Center and the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University will present a pilot study titled “Liquid Biopsies: Characterization of circulating tumor cells for early detection of colorectal carcinoma minimal residual disease.” The poster (ST-22) will be presented at the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) 2024 Europe Congress (https://lnkd.in/e6BNFP4), taking place from June 24-26, 2024, in Madrid, Spain, and the abstract is published in the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics "Abstracts of the AMP Europe 2024 Congress (jmdjournal.org)". The study that utilized Tethis S.p.A nanocoated Smart BioSurface® slides to capture non-self-adhering immune and tumor cells) is an encouraging proof-of-concept that circulating tumor cells can be identified through a bright field multi-staining immunohistochemistry method. This development is a step forward in the application of digital cytology within the field of liquid biopsy. Nadia Prisant Roberta Carbone Ruth Katz Iris Barshack

I am happy to share that the IEO and Tethis teams have published a paper on how Smart BioSurface biocompatible nano-coating can help to individually track living cells as they progress through the cell cycle. – On a personal note, it was the pursuit of cell cycle research that brought me to the dynamic and beautiful city of Milan nearly three decades ago. So, here’s a heartfelt “Ciao!” to all my friends active in cell cycle and DNA replication research!
We are excited to announce the publication of the research paper titled, "Automated Workflow for the Cell Cycle Analysis of Non-Adherent and Adherent Cells Using a Machine Learning Approach”, a collaborative effort between the research teams of Simona Rodighiero and Saverio Minucci at the IEO European Institute of Oncology and the Tethis' team. Discover how hundreds of living cells are individually tracked over a span of up to 72 hours as they progress through the cell cycle, also in response to drug treatment. This is possible due to the unique capabilities of Tethis' nanostructured titanium-oxide coating, which is also used in Tethis’ SmartBioSurface (SBS) microscopy slides. When applied to multi-well plates, this nanocoated surface can bind non-adhering, living mammalian cells. We eagerly anticipate the scientific discoveries this will enable in cellular biology, cancer research and drug development. https://lnkd.in/dJ5U3ktZ Roberta Carbone Gian Martino Franchi Ivan Negrelli Giacomo Bertolini Kourosh Hayatigolkhatmi Chiara Soriani Emanuel Soda Elena Ceccacci Sebastiano Peri, PhD
