After the 6th season of "Drive to Survive", which has been available on Netflix since last Friday, dealt with the most emotional elements of F1 in 2023, new material will be produced from today onwards. The 75th FIA Formula One World Championship season is starting in less than 5 minutes.
We would like to give you a look behind the sponsorship scene of this seemingly unbeaten pinnacle of motor racing. Please take a look at the attached bare numbers of the team sponsors that have come and gone since the end of last season.
With 20 companies joining or leaving, McLaren had by far the biggest workload in the partnership department over the Christmas and New Year period. The biggest loss of previous partners was at Williams Racing. 11 brands decided to leave the traditional team, which has been competing in Formula 1 since 1977.
What were the most interesting changes? The new team names Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team and Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber have already been criticized in the global media. From our point of view, Stake as an existing, upgraded partner with its signature testimonial Drake, a Canadian artist with more than 200m followers on social media, have brought a breath of fresh air and a “Hulk” green color (not Hulkenberg …;-) to the sport. Most admired team brand Ferrari has swapped its Spanish beer partner Estrella Galicia for Italian brand Peroni, which occupies one of the four (4!) slots on the SF-24 side pods. A new way of optimizing the sponsorship income by the Scuderia (Ray-Ban, Ceva, Peroni and Shell). Complimenti!
The busy McLaren team conquered two brands from it’s main competitors, the sweetest form of sponsor acquisition. Next to Estrella Galicia from Ferrari, they also acquired Monster from Mercedes-AMG. Two high seven-figure budgets. Congrats!
The unofficial SKH Sports Creative Award for the best sponsor activation goes to Mercedes-AMG and the freshly acquired partner brand WhatsApp. They placed the well-known logo on the smallest spot on the car (1sqcm), the green colored team radio button on the steering wheel. "We like"!
