𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 Our gut microbiota is involved in the metabolism of calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium, copper, and zinc. Previous research indicated that mineral status in humans was mainly associated with diet, but evidence published in the 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 suggests that probiotic bacteria aid mineral absorption. A randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled study in 53 healthy women given 𝘉𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘮 𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘴 BS01 and 𝘓𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘴 LA02 over 6 weeks showed an increase in calcium, magnesium, and iron with significant decreases in copper concentration based on hair mineral analysis. According to the WHO, iron deficiency is the leading deficiency worldwide. The gut microbiota enhances the absorption of dietary iron first by reducing iron-binding compounds in the gut, and second, by converting iron to more absorbable forms. The results of the 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 showed a significant increase, compared to placebo. in iron concentrations in hair after probiotic treatment with BS01 and LA02 suggesting it may be useful for improving iron status in iron-deficient individuals.  Contact our probiotic experts to help formulate your next mineral formula. We are thrilled to congratulate Marco Pane, our Chief Scientific Officer at Probiotical, for successfully earning his PhD in Food, Health, and Longevity. We are proud of his exploration into probiotics to mitigate the presence and detrimental effects of toxic heavy metals in the intestines. https://lnkd.in/dy_8K3Dh

    R&D Manager Probiotical SpA

I am thrilled to announce that I have completed my PhD in Food, Health, and Longevity, where my research focused on exploring the potential of probiotics to reduce the concentration and harm of toxic Heavy Metals at the intestinal level. The increasing industrial activity worldwide has led to the release of harmful elements like lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, and arsenic into our environment. These toxic metals can enter our ecosystems, affecting the food chain and ultimately impacting human health, especially in vulnerable groups such as infants, pregnant women, and the elderly.   Our research explored innovative solutions to this pressing problem. Traditional methods of heavy metal detoxification, such as chelation therapy, come with high costs, significant side effects, and the need for clinical oversight. They also do not offer a preventive solution and often require repeated treatments. In contrast, my thesis investigated the potential of probiotics—live microorganisms that provide health benefits—as a novel and more natural approach to reduce heavy metal toxicity.   We selected and characterized specific probiotic strains capable of interacting with heavy metals in the gastrointestinal environment. Through controlled experiments, which involved SHIME (ProDigest Academy), GEVS - Gut-Ex-Vivo-System (Marco Corazzari), calScreener (symcell), BICT (BiCT srl - Biological and Chemical Technologies) and Francesca De Filippis (UNINA) platforms and we found that these probiotics can reduce the bioavailability of heavy metals, potentially preventing their absorption and promoting their excretion. This not only helps in reducing the presence of these toxins in the body but also supports gut health by mitigating the associated oxidative stress and inflammation.   The implications of our research suggest that probiotics could play a valuable role in maintaining gut health, regulating immune responses, and mitigating oxidative stress, thus enhancing overall health resilience against environmental pollutants. Integrating probiotics into public health strategies might offer a non-invasive, cost-effective, and accessible solution, particularly for underserved communities most affected by industrial pollution.   I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our incredible R&D teams at PROBIOTICAL S.P.A. for their invaluable support and collaboration Annachiara De Prisco, Angela Amoruso, Serena Allesina, Deidda Francesca, Teresa Graziano, Giovanni Deusebio, Daniele Zogno, Annalisa Bissone, Annalisa Visciglia, Carlotta Morazzoni, Cecilia Zamponi, Eleonora Vido, Emanuele Chisari MD, PhD. A special thank you to Vera Mogna for believing in my unconventional ideas. Thank you Elisa Salvetti and Peter Bron for your invaluable support.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘆 𝗚𝘂𝘁 & 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Emerging evidence suggests that abnormally higher intestinal permeability, commonly known as “leaky gut” is associated with increased inflammation. The intestinal barrier is a physical barrier comprised of epithelial cells, tight junctions, immune cells, and more. Higher gut permeability leads to an influx of toxins, pathogens, antigens, and other proinflammatory substances from the gut into the blood leading to systemic inflammation. Abnormal gut microbiota and their metabolites are linked to leaky gut and inflammatory immune responses. Multiple diseases may arise or be exacerbated due to a leaky gut including inflammatory bowel disease and autoimmune conditions. Probiotics have been shown to improve the epithelial barrier ahd tight junction proteins. Contact our probiotic experts to discuss which probiotic strains to utilize for an optimal gut formula. www.probiotical.com #Probiotical #probiotics #gut #inflammation #bowel #disease #microbiota

It was an immense pleasure for us to be present at the 17th International Scientific Conference on Probiotics, Prebiotics, Gut Microbiota and Health - IPC 2024 in Prague. We were proud to participate with 6 members of our R&D team, presenting 4 posters showcasing our most recent research activities. We are also excited to announce that one of our posters, entitled “Promoting Women's Health: A 3D Model Study on Vaginal Dryness Treated with Probiotic 𝐿. 𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠”, received special attention and won second place in the Best Poster Award. Using our 𝐿. 𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠 strain in an advanced 3D model that simulates vaginal dryness, developed in collaboration with React4life, we demonstrated that 𝐿. 𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠 significantly restored AQP3 expression levels compared to dehydrated positive controls. The advanced 3D models played a crucial role in these discoveries, allowing for a more accurate simulation of vaginal conditions and highlighting the potential of 𝐿. 𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑠 in promoting vaginal health.
