State of the States – 2024 Elections Report: Party control in most state elections mirrored the Presidential Election results. Gubernatorial party control remained unchanged, while 7 states experienced changes or are under close watch at the legislative level. We saw the addition of one Republican AG, and do not expect significant change in how state AGs collaborate. AI, consumer protection, energy and climate, antitrust and protecting children are likely to remain at the top of the agenda. The incoming Trump Administration may tap some sitting Governors and AGs for federal cabinet positions, resulting in a reshuffling of political positions in 2025.
