🌊 What is Bottom Trawling? 🌊 Bottom trawling involves dragging heavy nets across the sea floor to catch fish and other seafood. This destructive fishing method not only captures target species but also tears apart delicate ecosystems, destroying habitats that countless marine species rely on. 🌍🐠 Dr. Sylvia Earle's powerful words remind us of the devastating impact of bottom trawling. "Just as we wouldn't bulldoze a forest to catch butterflies, we must not allow the destruction of our precious ocean floors for a few pounds of seafood". 🦋🚫 Let's protect our marine environments and advocate for sustainable fishing practices that preserve the health and diversity of our ocean. 🌿💙 #SaveOurOceans #EndBottomTrawling #MarineConservation #OceanProtection #SylviaEarle #ProtectSeaLife #SustainableFishing

⭐ Exciting News from the Baltic Sea! ⭐ I am thrilled to share a significant milestone in marine conservation. 🇸🇪 #Sweden’s Prime Minister and Environment Minister have announced a groundbreaking ocean law proposal that targets destructive fishing practices, specifically bottom trawling. This law will: 🐟 Prohibit bottom trawling in all Swedish Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and within 12 nautical miles of the Baltic Sea.  🐟 Endorse the 30% MPA and strict protection targets.  🐟 Make Sweden the second European Union country (after Greece) to ban bottom trawling in its MPAs and commit to the EU Marine Action Plan. 👏 This achievement results from Brussels's relentless global advocacy and communication efforts, combined with the dedicated work of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC). Fun Fact: To celebrate, the Environment Minister took a dip in the chilly Baltic Sea! 🏊♂️ https://lnkd.in/dtRH3J6x Read the official press release: https://lnkd.in/dbrcVYFd Article in Euractiv:  https://lnkd.in/dvY9zRpB Let's continue to advocate for a #bluefuture! #OceanConservation #MarineProtection #EU #Sweden #BalticSea #Sustainability #Oceanogami

Do you know there is an 🌊 MPA called the Marine Nature Park of the Gulf of Lion? 📍 Located in France and established in 2011, this 4019 km² park is remarkable for its diverse habitats, including semi-dark caves, Posidonia oceanica meadows, and coralligenous biocenosis. It’s also home to species like dolphins, seabirds, turtles, and sharks. 🐟 🐟 🐟 Despite challenges like biodiversity loss, pollution, climate change, and human activities, the MPA implements solutions 💡 such as habitat restoration, sustainable fishing, eco-friendly tourism, and public education. 🌿 Managing the MPA includes protecting its rich marine ecosystems, biodiversity hotspots, and cultural heritage sites, and focusing strongly on research and sustainable practices. 🤔 But how can the MPA improve? What opportunities can it seize? 👉As with many MPAs, the potential lies in partnerships, innovative research, community engagement, sustainable tourism, and policy support. What is evident is that the Marine Natural Park of the Gulf of Lion is a ⭐ model ⭐ of marine conservation, showcasing how to protect and restore our precious marine environments. Stay tuned for more as we explore other Mediterranean MPAs! #MarineConservation #GulfofLion #SustainableFishing #EcoTourism #OceanProtection #MarineBiodiversity

🌊 Great News! 🌊 Oceana and Seas At Risk, grantees from our client The Pew Charitable Trusts for the project Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy, have just shared this great news! The Nature Restoration Law has just been approved by the Environment Council! 🎉 This historic legislation is a significant step towards restoring Europe’s natural habitats and ecosystems. By #2030, at least 20% of the European Union’s land and sea areas will be covered by these ecosystems, and by 2050, all ecosystems will need restoration. Key highlights of the law include: 🐠 Marine Ecosystems: Restoration of vital marine habitats like seagrass beds and sediment bottoms, benefiting climate change mitigation and iconic species like dolphins, sharks, and seabirds. 🐠 Pollinators: Reversal of declining pollinator populations by 2030 and an increase in their numbers through rigorous monitoring. 🐠 Forests: Enhancement of forest biodiversity, connectivity, and carbon storage, contributing to climate adaptation. 🐠 Urban Spaces: No net loss of green urban spaces by 2030, with increased green areas by 2040 and 2050. 🐠 Agriculture: Boosting biodiversity in agricultural lands, improving conditions for butterflies, birds, and organic carbon in soils. This law aligns with the EU’s Biodiversity Strategy and the European Green Deal, aiming to create a resilient, biodiverse environment that supports both nature and people. 💙 💪 More info at: https://lnkd.in/gpj6YQ_d #NatureRestorationLaw #MarineConservation #OceanWins #EnvironmentCouncil #Oceanresponsibility

🌊 Ocean regeneration is all about restoring marine ecosystems damaged by human activities like overfishing, pollution, and climate change. By promoting marine biodiversity and healthy habitats, we can help our ocean recover and thrive. 🐠🌿 Businesses play a crucial role in these efforts through innovative, sustainable approaches. Here’s how they’re making a difference: 🔹 Sustainable Fisheries Management: By adopting sustainable fishing practices—like quotas, gear modifications, and seasonal closures—seafood businesses can help fish populations recover and minimize bycatch. 🔹 Marine Conservation Partnerships: Collaborating with conservation organizations, government agencies, and local communities supports marine protected areas, habitat restoration, and species conservation initiatives. Together, we can leverage resources, expertise, and technology for shared conservation goals. 🔹 Eco-friendly Tourism: Coastal tourism businesses can promote sustainable practices that protect marine ecosystems. Offering eco-tours, supporting coral reef restoration, and educating visitors about marine conservation make a big impact. 🔹 Blue Economy Development: Investing in renewable energy projects like offshore wind farms, tidal energy, and sustainable aquaculture practices helps preserve ocean resources. Businesses can lead the way in sustainable ocean use. 🔹 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Many companies support marine conservation through CSR initiatives by funding research, implementing sustainable practices, and backing conservation programs. This builds goodwill while making a positive impact. Moreover, participating and engaging employees in CSR activities can help in promoting ocean literacy. Businesses have a huge opportunity and responsibility to contribute to ocean regeneration. 🌊🌟 By integrating sustainability into their operations, they can help ensure the health and resilience of our oceans for future generations. At Oceanogami, we work closely with the private sector and develop their agendas according to the ocean's needs. 💙🌍 Will you join us? Together, we can make a difference! 💪 #OceanRegeneration #SustainableBusiness #MarineConservation #BlueEconomy #EcoTourism #CorporateResponsibility #ProtectTheOcean #FutureGenerations
