A lot to celebrate: from 200 applications a decade ago to an incredible 479 this year! 🎆 ⏪ This year, we hosted the 20th Migration Summer School. The Migration Policy Centre first organised this two-week academic training at the European University Institute in Florence in 2005. While the core mission and format of the School have remained largely unchanged, the diversity of participants and faculty, as well as its demand, have increased over the years. ⏩ This summer, the Centre welcomed 32 individuals from 21 countries, including Brazil, Canada, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Tunisia, and the United States. 🌍✨ This edition highlighted the enduring importance of research and a global approach in tackling migration challenges. Many migrants first arrive in EU border countries, like Italy 🇮🇹 Spain 🇪🇸 Croatia 🇭🇷 and Greece 🇬🇷 but then what? ❓Why do some migrants stay in their first country of arrival while others move to other European countries? ❓What are the consequences of mobility for migrants’ experiences? These are questions that the #PRIMEprojectEU is working to shed light on. In this new blog post 📃 researchers Roberto Forin Giulia Bruschi and Giulia Testa from our consortium partner, the Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) describe what we know about the mobility trajectories and experiences of newly arrived migrants in EU border countries and how we’ll collect longitudinal data to uniquely expand this limited knowledge base.
