Chi siamo
The growing need of reliable vehicle simulations for safety and performance improvement is leading academy and industry to carry out researches aimed at proposing innovative solutions able to guarantee the achievement of real-time, robust and predictive physical vehicle and tire models. MegaRide project is tightly linked to the activities carried out by the Vehicle Dynamics research group of the Department of Industrial Engineering (DII) of University of Naples Federico II, whose expertise is oriented to the development of models and procedures to be employed by vehicle manufacturers, tire developers, dynamicists and race engineers. MegaRide’s core is made of people working in a synergic environment involving both academic and industrial realities. The team diverse experiences and careers have been characterized by deep cooperation with high-profile companies and research centres. Services and products provided by MegaRide are based on an already thriving trade, structured thanks to many years of research partnerships between the research group and relevant automotive realities. MegaRide was born as a natural outcome project, thought to confer the proper value to the products of the Italian scientific research and to reinforce the still unexpressed potential of valuable academic realities. The company headquarter has been set in the Mechanics building of the Department of Industrial Engineering, where the UniNa Tyre Lab is located, in order optimize the information transfer and the logistics operations between the two institutions. At the current stage MegaRide has received, after a demanding evaluation process, the approval of the University of Naples committee for the official Spin-Off recognition.

#F1 tire preview by MegaRide - applied vehicle research: Race 14 - FORMULA 1 ROLEX BELGIAN GRAND PRIX 2024. If there is a date circled in red on every Formula 1 fan's calendar you can bet it is the #Belgian Grand Prix, at Circuit of Spa Francorchamps s.a. The #Ardennes are home to one of the most beautiful and exciting tracks of the world, a true University of motorsport: 7km length, through the forests of the Ardennes, with some legendary sections such as the Eau Rouge-Raidillon. The high lateral loads and medium to high abrasiveness will make life hard for the #tires, which will be forced into great stress this weekend, with the unknown weather hopefully offering fewer problems than in past years given the placement in the calendar at the end of July.

The development of an accurate #tire model cannot but start from careful observation and reproduction of reality. The creation of a tire #digital twin must go through several important stages, the first of which is definitely the use of the #RIDEtool, which allows to manage all the information relating to tire #geometric, #inertial and #structural characteristics, allowing the user to #parameterize its own tire in the simplest and most user-friendly way. This also allows for correct reproduction of the variation in the shape and position of the #contact patch, which is strongly influencing phenomena such as friction generation and #temperature and #wear distribution. The tool is designed to be compliant with many input types, being able to #process information about tires of any size (cars, motorcycles, trucks) and tested even under extreme lean angle conditions (such as for #motorcycle applications), effectively making the external user completely autonomous in the parameterization of #MegaRide models.

Ok, cool idea, but what can I exactly do with VESevo? #answer6 - did you ever have the opportunity to monitor the progressive #evolution of a single #tire characteristics, during its whole #lifecycle? Ageing hardening, chemical degradation, strain decay… All phenomena that, to be evaluated, require continuous and #nondestructive measurements, directly taken in the #road application. And that, coupled with a wide view on interaction with ground, can make the difference to deeply understand the tires #friction and #wear mechanisms for #performance prediction and optimization.

#F1 tire preview by MegaRide - applied vehicle research: Race 13 - FORMULA 1 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX 2024. Two more races before the summer break in the Formula 1 #World #Championship. We are at the Hungaroring Sport Zrt for the Hungarian GP. The track is very narrow and twisty with several low-medium speed corners, where it is important to have high #downforce and take complete benefit of #traction on the exit. It is difficult to overtake here, so strategies will be key. It is not a very abrasive track, but what is keeping the focus is the likely thermal #degradation of the #tires due to the high ambient temperatures.

Ok, cool idea, but what can I exactly do with VESevo? #answer5 - #vulcanization is a complex process, based on heat transfer and mould shape optimization. The target of every #tire produced is to keep the same #viscoelastic characteristics in every #tread sector, but often it does not easily happen. Monitoring the #viscoelasticity distribution directly on the #production line, with a completely #nondestructive methodology, and in real-time, is a key-factor in the development of a reliable quality control #process, a several tire-makers adopting the evolution of the #VESevo technology discovered…

Ok, cool idea, but what can I exactly do with VESevo? #answer4 - #thermal curing cycles have a significant effects on the tires #performance, influenced by #viscoelastic variations induced into the #polymeric chains by the thermal treatments. But how many #cicles, at which #temperatures and how long, induce the optimal variations into the #compound? A proper #test plan, thanks to #VESevo, can give you the answer on the conditions to set for the optimal thermal treatment for #tire performances maximization.

The development of physical #tire models is a well-established sophisticated task deeply making use of nonlinear mathematical formulations which have to account for the tire's composite #structure and the #interaction of multiple #physical variables. This work tackles the extension of the #multiphysical magic formula-based tire #model, already including #thermodynamic and #wear effects, by introducing a rigid ring body between the contact patch and the wheel hub. This integration within the #frequency domain is particularly beneficial as it enables the use of a unified model for both #handling and ride #comfort applications, thus providing a versatile tool for #automotive engineers to optimize tire performance across different scenarios.
