“Imagine a world where beauty is soulful and sustainable” is the title of the keynote presentation delivered by Mario Cucinella in London last May, as part of the 2024 RIBA VitrA Challenge: Rethink talks series. In this clip, our Founder & Design Director shares the studio approach to sustainable architecture, summed up in the expression "Practice creativity with empathy". “Creativity alone means extravaganza – says Cucinella - while to build for people you must first read and understand the context in which you intervene, through empathy. Sustainability, in our vision, comes from the balance between these two attitudes”. 👉To watch the full speech https://lnkd.in/daskUJzm Video: courtesy of RIBA RIBA RIBA London VitrA Bathrooms Samta Nadeem #RIBAVitrA #sustainability #sustainablearchitecture #urbanregeneration #architecture #mariocucinellaarchitects #mariocucinella #MCArchitects

Lyria Academy is both an achievement and a starting point, born from a journey filled with satisfactions and emotions. It began with an entrepreneurial mission with Confindustria Toscana Nord and Regione Toscana in the Middle East and continued with participation in the Dubai Design Week and the Meeting B2B GBB Riyadh. This journey led our founder, Riccardo Bruni, to conduct a workshop at Sharjah University in Dubai. An important experience that inspired us to create Lyria Academy: a project to open our company’s doors to share knowledge and the importance of sustainability in the textile sector. Our goal is to teach young design and fashion talents to appreciate fabrics rich in history, craftsmanship, and tradition, promoting conscious fashion and the value of Made in Tuscany. Lyria Academy was presented in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain last November, and this summer we are hosting the first groups of participants. The program covers the technical aspects of the creative process, the potential for recycled textiles in furniture and interiors, and the tradition and history of Tuscany, the cradle of the Renaissance. During the course, students will create sustainable and innovative prototypes and garments using our fabrics and recycled materials. We already hosted the first group of students from Prince Sultan University of Riyad. We showed them the world of Lyria through our creations, the philosophy behind our fabrics, and our territory's historical textile tradition. The students visited the Prato textile district and Museo del Tessuto, a cornerstone of textile culture in our region, and the prestigious architectural firm Mario Cucinella Architects Mario Cucinella in Bologna, which, like Lyria, places a high emphasis on sustainability. #LyriaAcademy #Lyria

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 To help turn architectural projects into reality by studying the best implementation solutions: this is one of the key tasks of the Technical Unit. Such is the case with the Palazzo Senza Tempo, in the historic center of Peccioli (Tuscany), conceived with the purpose of revitalizing a remarkable area within the town's historical core, dedicated to cultural activities and community services. This vision is realized through the redevelopment and restoration of 15th-century buildings, complemented by the addition of a 20-meter iconic cantilevered terrace, projecting onto the landscape beyond. Serving as a bridge between the city and the countryside, the terrace becomes a dynamic public square, ideal to host various events and gatherings. From a construction standpoint, the project faced a dual challenge: executing the substantial 20-meter cantilever and achieving a structurally slim design to create a public space beneath the terrace with a double volume, embracing the countryside. To address this challenge, a predominantly steel structure was implemented, substantially reducing thickness while ensuring a balance of solidity and lightness. This was accomplished through a sequence of steel profiles seamlessly integrated throughout the square’s deck, ensuring a cohesive and structurally sound foundation. The collaborative efforts of technicians and designers have given rise to a new contemporary landmark in the town of Peccioli, interacting with its historical heritage. The decision to leave the structure exposed underneath, without the addition of a false ceiling, further enhances the project's authenticity and architectural finesse. An exclusive glance at Ferrari’s new e-building. Designed by Mario Cucinella Architects, chosen for their commitment to sustainability, it prioritises energy efficiency and people’s wellbeing. This is more of an ecosystem than a typical production facility, designed to maximise natural resources: sun, rain, and the land itself. More than 3,000 photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof. We sought an opportunity to build something for our people, balancing beauty with functionality, as their wellbeing is always our main priority. Mario Cucinella #Maranello #Ferrari

Meet the MCA Team! “A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.” Fabrizio Bassetta, BIM Unit Manager, CDE & BIM Manager. At MCA since 2016. 🎤 What is your role in practice? In MCA, I hold three distinct roles with many points in common. As a BIM Manager, I am responsible for the planning and management of all the BIM projects developed according to this methodology. I draw up all the necessary documents and the coordination schedule plan, ensuring that the information model is developed consistently with the established rules of engagement. As the "guardian" of the Common Data Environment (CDE Manager), I manage the processes and tools of the virtual data exchange environment, ensuring the correctness, security, and quality of information flow. As the BIM Unit Manager, I follow the development of internal processes, standards, guidelines, and procedures, with the main focus on making the BIM methodology a fundamental element of the creative design process. On top of this, I am responsible, with the other guys in the Unit, for the research and development guidelines for BIM, with a focus on automation, efficiency and technological innovation. 🎤 What added value can your work bring to the studio and how? I have always valued my role as an architect before that of a BIM expert: the experience I've gained in design allows me to effectively guide the implementation of BIM processes in such a way as to complement and enhance the design phase, rather than overshadow it. This design-first approach helps me maintain a broad perspective on both the project at hand and the intricacies of team management, ensuring that the focus remains firmly on realizing the architectural vision as the ultimate goal. 🎤 Why did you choose to become an architect? To see a project to which you've dedicated months or years, finally materialize into a 1:1 scale reality is indescribably exhilarating. It begins with a blank sheet of paper, or an empty screen and a simple concept slowly takes form through meticulous drawing, revising, and imagining. This transformation from lines on a page to a physical structure that can be touched, entered into, and used by people is profoundly rewarding. Each project, regardless of size or purpose, carries a piece of the creator’s soul. Even years after completion, where others see just a building, an architect sees a narrative of creation, challenges overcome, and personal growth. 🎤 What do you like most about your job? I appreciate the opportunity to use my experience to enhance. It's fulfilling to see my skills and knowledge help in achieving our collective goals and supporting the team's development. 👉 Meet Fabrizio: https://lnkd.in/dRtK9kGf #MeetTheMCAteam #BIMUnit #BIM #BuildingInformationModelling #architecture #architect #team #interview #MCArchitects #mariocucinella #mariocucinellaarchitects
