Stay tuned for Laudato Si' 2.0! When Pope Francis promulgated the Encyclical "Laudato Si' - On Care for our Common Home", back in 2015, he made a passionate plea addressed to "every person living on this planet," to hear "the Cry of the Earth and the Cry of the Poor," bringing home the environmental and climate crises in a way that countless data-driven studies had not. Now, the #pontifex will promulgate an update, due to the "terrible world war on #nature." As highlighted by FaithInvest, secular environmental groups and people from many #faith traditions recognize the moral force of the Pope's call for systemic change. Since 2015, many new faith-based environmental campaigns have been launched, including the Global Catholic Climate Movement (now called the Laudato Si' Movement), which has become the world's biggest grassroots, faith-based environmental network, made up of more than 800 organizations around the world. More recently, the Laudato Si' Action Platform was launched to help millions of people to create a Laudato Si' Action Plan, while FaithInvest created dedicated Living Laudato Si' pages on its website to encourage people inspired by #LaudatoSi' to become faith-aligned in the management of their financial and physical assets and investments. Laudato Si' has also inspired a #Muslim initiative, called "Al-Mizan: a Covenant for the Earth," which is a novel international, intersectional and multi-organizational and institutional undertaking by Sunni and Shia scholars, academicians, environmental leaders and activists worldwide. Institutions have teamed up with the Faith for Earth Initiative at the United Nations Environmental Program (#UNEP); the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization; the IFEES (Islamic Foundation for Ecology & Environment Sciences); Üsküdar University in #Istanbul, the Qu'ranic Botanic Garden and the College of Islamic Studies and Hamad Bin Khalifa University in #Qatar to draft it. Stay tuned for the second part of Laudato Si', in the form of an Apostolic Exhortation, to be promulgated by the spiritual director of the world on October 4, the feast of Saint Francis of #Assisi, the patron saint of the #environment: "It is necessary to stand with the victims of environmental and climate injustice, striving to end the senseless war on our common home which is a terrible world war. I urge all of you to work and pray for it to abound with life once again." 🙏🏽🌍🌳
