CESI is pleased to announce the appointment of Nicola Melchiotti as our new CEO for the 2024-2026 term! During the first meeting of our newly appointed Board of Directors, chaired by Guido Bortoni, Nicola was welcomed into his new role. With a long background in Enel Group, Nicola brings invaluable experience to CESI. His impressive career at Enel includes roles such as Head of Global Customer Operations, Country Manager in Argentina, Head of European Public Affairs and Regulation in Brussels, and Area Manager for Mexico and Central America. He also has strategic consulting experience with McKinsey & Company. Nicola holds a degree in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, a Master’s in Engineering from CentraleSupélec in Paris, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. "I am honored to join CESI as new CEO. The group has a distinctive track record, with a know-how and culture of innovation that are truly appreciated by our customers. If we look at the markets, we see an accelerated energy transition with many corporations and institutions that require help, to manage a transformation that can be complex, fast and high-stake. When we put these two things together; I can only see a bright future for CESI and I am very excited to be part of it" stated Nicola. 🌟 Reflecting on our week at the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) T&D Conference 🌟     A heartfelt thank you to all our friends and colleagues who visited our booth last week in Anaheim. Here are some of the critical insights and discussions from our team on shaping the future of the energy landscape:       🔥 Wildfire-Resilient #DistributionTransformers  Michele Pastore was particularly impressed by the advancements in dry-type, single-phase overhead distribution transformers designed for high-wildfire-risk areas. These transformers are pivotal for enhancing safety and ensuring an uninterrupted power supply under challenging conditions.     ⚡ #FERC Order 881 and Dynamic Line Rating  Muhammad Humayun highlighted the panel on "Updates on FERC Order 881 and Ambient Adjusted Ratings (#AAR) / Dynamic Line Ratings (DLR) Implementation." This order mandates U.S. transmission providers to implement Ambient Adjusted Ratings for transmission lines by July 12, 2025. Discussions included the significant progress made by SDG&E and the urgency of meeting this regulatory milestone.     🔋 EV Charging Impacts  There were insightful discussions on the implications of #ElectricVehicle (EV) charging on distribution and transmission grids. These conversations underscored the need for strategic mitigation strategies to manage the increased load and demand.     🔄 Integrated Planning  The necessity for enhanced coordination among planning, engineering, and Distributed Energy Resources (#DER) functions was a key theme. This integration is crucial for streamlining operations and improving grid efficiency.     🌍 Intelligent Grid Edge Voltage Control  New technologies for voltage control at the grid's edge were a focal point, aiming to improve grid stability and accommodate a surge in renewable energy sources.     The conference was a testament to the dynamic and evolving nature of the transmission and distribution sector. 🌟 Electricity Friday! 🌟 Voor de eerste keer organiseerden we een dag speciaal voor (inter)nationale en regionale journalisten om ze de kracht van Arnhem in de energiewereld te laten ontdekken. Onze dag begon met een trolleybusrit vanaf station Arnhem naar Arnhems Buiten. Hier verwelkomde Nermina Kundić, wethouder Gemeente Arnhem ons en nam ons mee in de innovatie en energy hotspot in onze regio. Thijs van Dieren vertelde ons over de geschiedenis en toekomst van Arnhems Buiten als Electricity Campus. Deze campus is onlangs verrijkt met de komst van het Zuid-Koreaanse Hyosung, met ondersteuning van Oost NL, die hier een R&D centrum opzet om te werken aan de verduurzaming van het Europese hoogspanningsnet. DNV deelde hun expertise in het versnellen van de energietransitie. Een tour bij KEMA Labs gaf ons een inkijkje in de wereld van testen, inspecteren en certificeren. KEMA benadrukte de ligging aan de Rijn als belangrijke toegangspoort. 🔌 Op Industriepark Kleefse Waard benadrukte Marcel Hielkema, voorzitter van Connectr - Energy innovation, het belang van kennisuitwisseling om de economie van de energietransitie te bevorderen. Een bezoek aan ElaadNL en RIFT toonde aan hoe Arnhem zich profileert als de Europese hoofdstad van laadinfrastructuur. Vol inspiratie, nieuwe contacten en energie 😉 keerde ik huiswaarts. Top dat we dit in zo’n korte tijd met elkaar hebben neergezet Ilse Schennink, Paul Maassen, Jeroen Herremans, Merel Schouten, Hanneline Oosting-Adriaansens, Robbert Nesselaar en Barry Storm.
