📣 To amplify action for rural development, IFAD issued a €100 million sustainable bond today to Bank Al-Maghrib, the central bank of #Morocco. Marking IFAD’s eighth sustainable bond, the proceeds will contribute to finance IFAD’s development projects globally, focusing on transforming rural areas to make them more productive and prosperous, ultimately improving the livelihoods, food security and resilience of millions of rural people. ❝We are delighted to partner for the first time with a Central Bank, and particularly with Bank Al Maghrib. The Bank has an explicit 10 per cent target of Environmental Social and Governance investments and applies a Corporate Social Responsibility Policy that is aligned with IFAD’s values,❞ said Natalia Toschi, Head of Funding, IFAD. 🌾 IFAD projects enable small farming communities to improve their agricultural practices and access technologies, markets and value chains to increase their production and earn a decent income. In Morocco, IFAD has worked extensively with farming cooperatives, grassroots and women’s organizations to develop new food value chains from production to transformation and commercialization.

🌱 The #SOFI2024 report, launched during the #G20 Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty Task Force Ministerial Meeting in #Brazil, brings sobering news. Around 733 million people faced hunger in 2023. This is a stark reminder that achieving SDG 2: #ZeroHunger by 2030 is becoming increasingly challenging. The report shows that access to adequate food remains elusive for billions. In 2023, 2.33 billion people faced moderate or severe food insecurity, with over 864 million experiencing severe food insecurity. While Latin America shows improvement, challenges persist, especially in #Africa, where 58% of the population is affected. 🍏 The report also brings attention to the critical issue of economic access to healthy diets, with over 2.8 billion people unable to afford one in 2022. This disparity is most pronounced in low-income countries, where 71.5 percent of the population cannot afford a healthy diet, exacerbating the challenges of malnutrition. 📈 IFAD is committed to tackling these challenges through strategic investments in sustainable agriculture. Our focus on small-scale farmers and rural communities is crucial for improving food security and nutrition. With innovative financing solutions and a US$10 billion programme of work planned for 2025-2027, we aim to reach over 100 million rural people. Let's work together to create a future where everyone has access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food. 🌾🥗 ➡ Find out more: https://bit.ly/3zSUQkb
