How to Sequester 1 to 2.5 tons/ha of CO2 with Regenerative Agriculture Each year, Horta conducts field trials of regenerative agriculture to advise industries and agri-food supply chains on the best techniques to maximize carbon sequestration in the soil and improve soil health. Here are some of the techniques applied: 🌱 Relay cropping of Cover Crops with Alfalfa: sown with wheat during tillering. 🔄 Reduction of Pre-Sowing Tillage: minimizing soil tillage before sowing. 💧 Reduction of Nitrogen Units: reducing nitrogen input to the crops. Thanks to these techniques, soil fertility is increased, and carbon is sequestered in the plant, which eventually ends up in the soil. These steps are fundamental for generating soil carbon.
