Happy Energy Efficiency Day! EnerSys is excited to be featured in the "2024 Better Buildings Progress Report" for winning the 2024 Better Project Award! This recognition highlights our implementation of the innovative Cold Cube Production System, which eliminated the need for an energy-intensive lead melting process. As a result, we’ve reduced energy consumption at our Springfield, Missouri plant while also improving worker health and safety. For each battery made with materials in the Cold Cube Production System, there is a ~20% reduction in embedded Scope 1 emissions per battery produced. This progress report showcases the incredible strides made by DOE’s Better Buildings partners as they work to decarbonize and boost energy efficiency across the nation's buildings, manufacturing plants, and homes. Since 2011, these efforts have collectively saved nearly $22 billion and cut over 220 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions—the equivalent of the annual emissions from 29 million homes! We are proud to announce that EnerSys has been selected to enter into award negotiations for $199 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to support the development of a state-of-the-art lithium-ion cell production facility in Greenville, SC! This marks a major step forward in strengthening the U.S. supply chain and advancing energy storage technology. This new facility will meet the growing demand for high-quality, domestically sourced lithium-ion batteries for commercial and defense applications. Our new factory will provide lithium-ion cells supporting a wide range of our products across all of our business segments, including fast charge and storage systems, NexSys® iON batteries to power electric forklifts, Alpha® XRT-Li extended runtime power systems for communications networks, and future incremental high-energy Li6T batteries for DOD ground vehicles. In 2024, the EnerSys DE&I team, and EnerSys Academy launched the DEI Ambassador Program, creating a cohort of U.S. employees who delved deeper into their personal DEI journeys to inspire and equip themselves to become ambassadors to our EnerSys community. After the success of over 20 sessions held and 270 employees trained in the U.S., we are thrilled to be launching our second cohort on a global scale! Shayne Bauer-Ellsworth, MS.Ed., Global Learning Development Manager, is a former DEI practitioner and current leader with the EnerSys Academy.
