Throwback Thursday: 30 #AEM Electrolysers for Japan's largest natural gas utility, Tokyo Gas Asia Pte. Ltd. A year ago, we shared this exciting news: Tokyo Gas opened the first commercial H2 refueling station using AEM electrolysis in Asia. The 16,000-employee company chose Enapter to supply 30 AEM Electrolysers for the on-site production of green hydrogen. The hydrogen meets fuel cell purity standards through 15 of our dryers. Our Japanese partner, Inabata, handled the integration of our AEM Electrolysers. Beyond this project, plans are in place to explore renewable hydrogen with Tokyo Gas and implement more hydrogen projects in Japan. The island country is pursuing ambitious goals to decarbonise its economy and society. Japan is a strong market for Enapter. Our single-core AEM Electrolysers are available in Japan as an 8-bar pressure version, complying with local thresholds set by the High Gas Pressure Safety Act. Tokyo Gas's “Senju” refueling station is not the only major project. Just to name two more: • Osaka-based Yanmar uses 28 AEM Electrolysers at their industrial Clean Energy Site to produce on-site hydrogen for testing various devices under in-house development. • #Obayashi Corporation, one of Japan's major construction companies, increasingly focuses on renewable energy sources for their projects. Green hydrogen will play an increasingly important role in their customers’ energy management systems. Start small now, scale up quickly: Here’s why Roto-Art and Adsensys are role models for industrial usage of green hydrogen👇 At Roto-Art BV, all signals are green. The Dutch company manufactures customer-specific plastic products using rotational casting. Their creations range from designer lamps to basketball hoops and feeders. Together with our Certified Partner Adsensys, they implemented a role model project for industrial usage of green hydrogen: Roto-Art has 11 ovens. And 1,600 PV panels on the roof of their new factory. On a sunny day, they generate 4 MWh of solar power. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻: Replace as much natural gas as possible using excess solar energy to produce onsite green hydrogen. • 7 of Enapter’s #AEM EL 4 electrolysers • already blend >30% of H2 into the natural gas network • to supply one oven The cooperation is a pilot project. Step by step, more green H2 is being added to replace natural gas. With each increase, the furnaces and the end product are monitored to establish the maximum amount of injected H2 – without decreasing the product quality and without damaging the furnace. The goal is to reach 100% H2. Roto-Art's rooftop PV even has enough capacity to supply all the ovens with green hydrogen. The turnkey hydrogen system was commissioned in less than half a year after Adsensys’s Arthur Scheffer and Cas Oerlemans from Roto-Art met. “We both like to tackle things,” says Arthur. At Enapter, we admire this mentality of acting with urgency. This #AEMpowered multi-picea system can store up to 15,000 kWh of solar power to supply medium-sized companies with green H2-based energy all year round 👇 Our Berlin-based partner HPS Home Power Solutions AG is the provider of the first all-in-one solar-hydrogen system for buildings. Their “picea” system combines components including our #AEM Electrolyser technology and green hydrogen storage to create a fully self-sufficient and CO₂-free energy system. For even higher energy storage capacities in bigger properties, a large number of picea systems can be connected together in a cascaded ‘multi-picea’. In 2021 and on a building area of 1200m², Josef Küpper Söhne GmbH realised the first commercial building in Germany that supplies itself with heat, cooling and electricity with the help of self-generated green hydrogen and is thus energy self-sufficient. With 98 kWp of photovoltaics on the roof and also on the façade, every ray of sunlight is captured. The solar power supplies the lighting, the IT infrastructure and all other electrical devices. Küpper’s electric vehicles refuel their required energy at a total of five e-charging stations. 🌞In summer, there is a solar surplus. At this time, green hydrogen is produced and stored in pressurised cylinders for seasonal energy storage. Their storage solution can store 440kg of green hydrogen, which provides the equivalent of 7,500 kWh of electricity and 7,500 kWh of heat, whenever needed. ❄️In winter, electricity and heat are generated from the green hydrogen via fuel cells. The waste heat from the fuel cells is used to heat the company’s storage areas. The geothermal heat pump also receives electricity either directly from the PV system or from the multi-picea energy centre. Peter Küpper, founder and owner of Küpper Söhne states: “With our new location, we have built a beacon that radiates far beyond the region. We show that ecology and economy can be in harmony. The energy transition is possible. Let's get started on this path together.” Do you also want to supply your own residential or commercial property with self-generated solar power all year round – and be more independent of electricity price fluctuations? Feel free to request a quote for this turnkey solution directly from our partner HPS Home Power Solutions AG. What great news!⬇️Together with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines our friends from ZeroAvia plan to perform first demo flights in 2026 between two airports. But there’s even more: “The world’s largest airlines are diving in to explore hydrogen-electric as a potential solution with increasing seriousness”, says James Peck, Chief Customer Office at ZeroAvia. Hydrogen-electric engines use H2 in fuel cells to generate electricity, powering electric motors to turn the aircraft’s propellers. The only emission? Low-temperature water vapor, potentially reducing climate impact by up to 90% compared to kerosene-fueled flights. Recently, ZeroAvia announced major milestones at the Farnborough International Airshow: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 #KLM. The Dutch airline aims to operate more sustainably. Their joint demo flights with ZeroAvia will provide the evidence-base for adopting cleaner flights on KLM’s network. This project will also accelerate the development of hydrogen aircraft operation concepts across the EU. KLM and Air France's maintenance divisions are already collaborating with ZeroAvia on effective MRO operations for hydrogen fuel cell planes. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 Ecojet. The world’s first electric, commercial airline has signed an agreement to purchase 22 ZA2000 hydrogen-electric engines from ZeroAvia, with options for 40 more. These engines can be retrofitted for up to 80-seat regional turboprop aircraft. ZeroAvia has already conducted extensive testing of a prototype of its first smaller ZA600 engine aboard a Dornier 228 aircraft at its home base in the UK. Their tests at Kemble Airport are fueled with green hydrogen from 10 #AEM Electrolysers and EMEC: European Marine Energy Centre’s mobile refuelling system – all built by our integration partner Fuel Cell Systems Ltd. We’re proud to be supporting the team on their mission to decarbonise aviation. It’s time to move away from expensive, polluting diesel generators.👇 Here’s how to replace them with green hydrogen: Telecom towers often rely on generators that can rapidly power up in case of an electricity outage. In remote locations, they’re often even the sole power supply. The same applies to power supply for construction sites, events or emergency back-ups. Most of the generators run on dirty gas or diesel. In fact, the global generator sales market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% until 2027. Obviously, this is not a good idea for several reasons: ❌ Rising prices ❌ Increasing CO2 & NOx emissions particulate matter ❌ Inconvenient, costly fuel logistics ❌ High noise levels Fortunately, their days are numbered. The answer is green hydrogen. H2 power generators working with excess renewable energy are already cost-competitive today, while OPEX for fossil fuel-based generators increased by 28% since 2019. On top of eliminating complicated and costly fuel logistics, smart devices like Enapter’s #AEM EL 4 electrolyser offer the option for remote monitoring of all system components via our Energy Management System Toolkit, which comes in very handy for remote locations. 👆 Swipe through this slideshow proving that this is not just theory, but real-life practice all around the globe.
