the jiangpu community culture and sports center, located in shanghai‘s yangpu district, revitalizes the former site of the shanghai forever bicycle factory. the project by lacime architects addresses the contrast between the old neighborhood and modern high-rise communities, aiming to enhance the area’s community culture and living environment. the design respects the site’s long, narrow plot with the main entrance on liyuan west road, ensuring the continuity of the streetscape along tihushan road. the street-facing facade adheres to a 24-meter height limit, while the internal courtyard is segmented into various outdoor activity spaces through entrance porches and suspended boxes on the second floor. these courtyards cater to youth creative markets and elderly interactions. read more here: https://buff.ly/3Wt3X2G

along the banks of the river enz in pforzheim sits haug rainbow fountain, a mystical creature sprouting an ephemeral mist across the water. though at first he appears a little morbid -- his hollow melting skull revealing a cluster of high-tech sensors -- he sporadically captures rays of sunlight and transforms them into a dissipating, kaleidoscopic glow. for ornamenta 2024, the bronze installation has been realized by studio brynjar and veronika as a hybrid between an icelandic elf and a water spirit, carrying echoes of the folk tales whispered in the neighbouring northern black forest. 'in iceland, where I come from, the rainbow is also a bridge between humans, elves, and hidden people. these kind of spirits that live beyond what we see,' brynjar sigurðarson tells designboom. read more here: https://buff.ly/4fmsMFS
