Fostering knowledge for sustainable innovation in agriculture, food and bioeconomy
Chi siamo
The Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences (DISTAL) was born in 2018 as an integrated organization incorporating all the teaching and research activities of the agricultural and food area of the University of Bologna. It is organized to cover the main disciplines concerning agriculture, food, environment and the bioeconomy, in particular:; Agronomy and Field, Vegetable, Ornamental Crops; Agricultural Chemistry, Pedology and Agricultural genetics; Agricultural Engineering; Agro-environmental and Food microbiology; Animal Sciences; Chemistry, Biochemistry and Botany; Food Science and Technology; Fruit Tree and Woody Plant Sciences; Plant Pathology and Entomology; Agricultural and Food Economics. To answer the current societal challenges in the framework of SDGs and with the recent attention to resilience, the department promotes innovation in particular around research areas such as Precision Agriculture and big data, Water management, Soil health, Plant health, Circular Bioeconomy, Apidology and Apiculture, Aquaculture and fisheries, Genetic resources and agricultural and Food processing and bio-technologies in general. DISTAL has two main campuses: the headquarter located in Bologna (BO), focused on agriculture teaching, research and knowledge transfer activities and the campus of Cesena (FC), where food science educational programs and research activities are developed. However, DISTAL performs its main missions in other educational and research hubs located in Ozzano (BO), Cadriano (BO), Imola (BO) and Tebano (RA).

#distalpublications ⚡ Even though there have been attempts to analyse the energy-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emission in the European Union, there is still a lack of research that considers structural change, fossil energy consumption, and energy-mix simultaneously. #distalpublications 🌲 🌳 Socio-ecological resilience is the capacity of a system to adapt to changing ecological and social disturbances. Its assessment is extremely important to integrate long-term management of ecological and social features of natural ecosystems. 🌲 🌳 This is especially true for 𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬, such as sacred forests and groves, where it can reveal the influence of social processes in ecosystem recovery or degradation. 🌲 🌳 In the study - 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙤-𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙨: 𝙀𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙨𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙀𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙪𝙨, 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙘𝙚 -the main results reached by the authors of the article - Valentino Marini Govigli, John R. Healey, Jennifer L. G. Wong, Kalliopi Stara, @Dr. RIGAS TSIAKIRIS, John M. Halley show that over past centuries sacred forests in Epirus underwent periods of varying tree establishment rate, depending on the intensity of human activities and historical disturbance events. Thanks to Sarah Wangui Muiruri for attending. We are happy that the summer school directed by Maurizio Canavari was a great opportunity! Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna
I’m glad to have spent an intense and worthwhile week attending the experimental auction summer school at the University of Bologna. Taught by reknown economists Jayson Lusk , Rudy Nayga, Andreas Drichoutis and Maurizio Canavari, this course was highly insightful and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn more on experimental auctions. The course also provides a great opportunity to learn and interact with fellow scholars and share research ideas with potential collaboration.

#distalpublications 💦 Correct water management of golden kiwifruit vines, besides being essential for reaching high yield and fruit quality, is also fundamental to keep plants healthy and avoid useless water loss.
