How can we improve an already award-winning and brilliant solution like the portable ECG device D-Heart that our team designed for Strena Medical? From our perspective, there is always room for enhancement and further developments. This is one of the most interesting challenges of a designer’s life. In collaboration with Scuola Design Polimi, we asked this question to 1st-year Master’s degree students in Digital & Interaction Design. Thirteen groups of students extensively analyzed D-Heart’s potential, pain points, and new targeted application possibilities from a user-centered point of view. The results were profound and intriguing. Leveraging the strengths of the solution, Politecnico di Milano’s students envisioned and tested new concrete scenarios of use and interaction with D-Heart on real users. The teams highlighted common remarks and points of view as well as new, peculiar, ideas, reimagining the entire user journey. Introducing the students to a multidisciplinary and socially impactful project like D-Heart has been extremely stimulating. It allowed us to share our expertise as digital and physical designers in the healthcare sector and underscored the importance of listening to new perspectives, staying open to debate, and learning together. Good luck to all those who took part in this project and thank you #ScuolaDesignPolimi!
