The Foundation Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) is a research centre on climate science and policy
Chi siamo
The Foundation Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) is a research centre on climate science and policy. The CMCC: - Integrates all studies on climate change and adaptation/mitigation policies - Promotes collaboration and synergy with international organisations, policy makers, and industry - Provides technical-scientific support to the institutions involved in the negotiation and international cooperation activities. CMCC produces thorough studies regarding climate variability, causes, and consequences, through the development of high-resolution simulations based on global models of Earth systems and regional models, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean area. CMCC's research assures the maintenance of highly reliable products and instruments, which are made available to the scientific community and to further studies on climate science and climate change impacts. CMCC maintains, checks, and develops numeric model simulations, which are used to study the effects of climate change on the following areas: economy, agriculture, coastal areas, marine and land environment, hydrogeological cycle, carbon cycle and human health.

The final day of the workshop on Climate Migration sponsored by CMCC and GEOCEP project has come to an end. Today's session aimed to outline a path for Future Migration and its Implications, followed by an excellent discussion among the researchers. It was a great opportunity to delve deep into the possible interrelations between trade and migration as two alternative means of adaptation to climate change. Thanks to those who participated! Salt wedge intrusion events can severely affect and damage estuary ecosystems. Therefore predicting when they will occur is a considerable asset. A new study involving CMCC researchers uses #machinelearning and #deeplearning models to predict and forecast salt wedge intrusion and estuary salinity in the Po delta, Italy, yielding results that could help support smart management strategies worldwide. An innovative tool is now available for studying the impacts of #extremeweather events on #coastlines. A study involving the CMCC created a prototype that using #AI and #MachineLearning, offers decision-makers new opportunities to assess the importance of hazard factors and plan adaptation strategies. Specifically, in the paper “A machine learning approach to evaluate coastal risks related to extreme weather events in the Veneto region (Italy)” the ML model estimates risks as a result of extreme weather events along the coastal municipalities of the #Veneto region. Climate change significantly impacts public health worldwide, with more severe threats to the most vulnerable societal groups, such as the elderly and children. The second issue of #CMCCUpdates is focused on the most recent CMCC research studying the relationship between rising temperatures worldwide and health risks. Check it out and subscribe!

Children are particularly vulnerable to the health impacts of climate change. Quantifying these negative effects and pinpointing areas where children are at greater risk can help inform evidence-based policymaking. 👉 New research by Shouro Dasgupta, PhD of CMCC and Elizabeth Robinson of The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) combines high-resolution climatic data with extensive health data from over a hundred countries to assess how climate affects child health and development. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gV6G2KTP #climatechange #climateimpacts #health #childhealth #climaterisks
