In the global challenge of climate change, the feasibility of meeting the temperature goals set by the Paris Agreement is increasingly challenging due to institutional and technological constraints. A new study published in Nature Climate Change highlights critical challenges in meeting the Paris Agreement’s long-term goals given recent global atmosphere-damaging emissions trends. “The findings suggest that without substantial improvements in global governance and rapid policy interventions, the likelihood of limiting global warming to the agreed targets diminishes,” said CMCC’s Laurent Drouet, one of the study’s authors. “This research highlights the urgency of improving institutional frameworks and technological innovations to combat climate change effectively.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/ePeAfSau #climatechange #parisagreements #temperaturegoals #globalwarming #emissionscut

The Foundation Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) is a research centre on climate science and policy
Chi siamo
The Foundation Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) is a research centre on climate science and policy. The CMCC: - Integrates all studies on climate change and adaptation/mitigation policies - Promotes collaboration and synergy with international organisations, policy makers, and industry - Provides technical-scientific support to the institutions involved in the negotiation and international cooperation activities. CMCC produces thorough studies regarding climate variability, causes, and consequences, through the development of high-resolution simulations based on global models of Earth systems and regional models, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean area. CMCC's research assures the maintenance of highly reliable products and instruments, which are made available to the scientific community and to further studies on climate science and climate change impacts. CMCC maintains, checks, and develops numeric model simulations, which are used to study the effects of climate change on the following areas: economy, agriculture, coastal areas, marine and land environment, hydrogeological cycle, carbon cycle and human health.

“We are increasingly seeing that differing capacities for adapting to climate change are not just a matter that concerns high- and low-income countries but also the social differences within wealthy ones.” (Giacomo Nicolini, CMCC researcher) From hurricanes to #heatwaves, extreme events impose costs that are not borne equally. The poorest are paying for the biggest cost of climate change. Read more on #ClimateForesight: https://ow.ly/XEqX50SSHL6

After successful installments in Venice in 2023 and New York City in 2024, The Cooling Solution lands in London in September 2024 at the Italian Cultural Institute. A photographic and scientific project, resulting from a collaboration between CMCC and Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, with photography by Gaia Squarci, it showcases global resilience to climate challenges and how different communities adapt to high heat and humidity in countries most affected by climate change. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ejHxUSYR The Cooling Solution features photography by Gaia Squarci, research by the ENERGYA team led by prof. Enrica De Cian at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and Fondazione CMCC. The exhibition is curated by Kublaiklan and coordinated by element6.eu.

Poverty is a defining factor for climate vulnerability, as the poorest communities often lack the financial means to prevent and adapt to the most severe consequences of a warming world. Researchers have found that adaptation inequalities exist even within wealthier countries, highlighting the need for context-specific adaptation policies.
