Everything I write is massively self indulgent. I’m not ashamed, I only wish it could be like this for everybody all the time.

"Terry. Hey. Couldn"t meet at the Four Seasons?"
fuck an "intended audience" how about we normalize engaging with new and unfamiliar art pieces on their own terms
ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the difference between pushing a product and creating a work of art
I can"t be bothered to find the thread rn. But there were a bunch of people talking about it, and I agree, so I"m sharing the idea here:
We need a death of the audience; lots of media gets worse because authors are too worried about a hypothetical audience. As someone engaging with media, you need to understand that you simply might not understand all of it, and that"s ok. But also I think more authors need to realize that it"s ok if not everyone in the audience will fully understand everything they"re doing.
sometimes the best writing advice is "just let it be bad." revolutionary. terrifying. but it works.
"Sensei Wolf? You sent this thug to kidnap me? Why?"
"Because, Danny boy… what would life be without a few surprises?"
Literally cannot emphasize enough that my #1 writing advice is to stop being afraid. Stop being afraid of sounding too cringe, or too stupid, or too horrifying, or too horny, or too weird, or too much, or too little, or too you. You need to put your entire pussy into your art. Sure, it won"t be to everyone"s tastes, but if you keep yourself to the blandest tamest safest roads possible you will be of no one"s tastes, not even yours.
