Historically, biodiversity credits and compensation have been used to address impacts to ecosystems or specific species related to a specific development project, such as a mine, highway, or housing development. But nature positive requires us to take a broader view, says Amrei von Hase, a co-author of the Nature paper and Programme Director at the Wildlife Conservation Society. “Nature positive by definition requires us to increase our ambition to include entire value chains and financial portfolios, and to include land, water, and climate – not just biodiversity,” she says. #sustainability #esgreporting #biodiversity #naturepositive

The World Economic Forum have identified several key barriers to facilitating the nature positive transition, including data availability on corporate disclosures, lack of resources and expertise, and unclear business cases. To combat issues with data availability, the WEF recommends that financial institutions "prioritise and locate relevant data to assess the nature performance of companies and inform decision making." It also suggests collaboration with public finance and industry to create financing mechanisms that will help to build strong business cases to reduce the impact on nature. #sustainability #esgreporting #biodiversity #naturepositive

"Data is key for investors as they focus on nature." "As investors have begun to focus on nature over the past two years, many have been taken by surprise at the complexity of measuring how companies impact biodiversity. While collecting data in relation to climate is far from straightforward, the complexity of the data problem around biodiversity is potentially many orders of magnitude greater." "ESG teams understand there is no substitute into digging deeply into a wide range of data sets that consider supply chain and commodity-level impacts as well as impacts at companies´ own locations." #sustainability #esgreporting #biodiversity #naturepositive
