We extend our warmest congratulations to Corrsy, a startup supported by the Iraqi Angel Investment Network (IAIN), for raising 500,000 US Dollars in a recent investment round through Iraqi and international investors. Iraq's talented women entrepreneurs show great potential to drive economic development with their innovative ideas, but navigating the business world can be challenging. Limited access to financing and a lack of skills and resources often hold them back. To bridge this gap, GIZ, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, launched a series of training workshops at the Directorate of Scientific Care in Baghdad. This initiative provided 90 inspiring women with the essential skills to turn their dreams into successful businesses. The two-month workshops cover budgeting, investment strategies, navigating loans, and financial transactions, equipping participants with the tools to make informed financial decisions. They also focus on business management, guiding participants through the process of creating a strong business model and mastering the art of pitching ideas. Now, these young women have celebrated their graduation! They shared valuable success stories and recommendations for future workshops. Mais, the participant in the photo, owns SELA, a company specialising in sustainable and disability-friendly interior and exterior design. In her speech, she shared her journey as an entrepreneur and emphasised how the skills acquired from the program have been crucial to advancing and sustaining her business – a great inspiration to others. Dr. Ahmed Saad Aliwi, Director of the Scientific Care Department at MoYS, highlighted the workshops' significance in supporting Iraqi youth and fostering their entrepreneurial spirit. #Climatechange poses significant challenges to the #stability and #security of countries, with #Iraq being identified as one of the most climate-vulnerable nations. GIZ supports the Government of Iraq in its efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change, including potential climate-induced conflicts. Solution Labs for Climate Change and Adaptation bring together government and civil society stakeholders to discuss improving adaptation to climate change effects in their regions. Our third Solution Lab focused on Basra, Missan and Thi Qar, and effective policy implementation, stakeholder coordination, and infrastructure improvement were discussed. In addition to that, participants presented the following expert solutions: 💡Conflict Prediction: Introducing a conflict sensitivity matrix, especially for the marshes. 💡Displacement Reduction: Conducting awareness sessions, dialogues, and mediation efforts through a climate mediation handbook developed for Thi Qar. 💡Smart Farming: Implementing smart irrigation systems, closed fish cultivation, and dry breeding of buffaloes. Financial service providers, such as banks and electronic payment providers, can improve financial inclusion not only for small and midsize businesses but also for vulnerable persons. By developing products tailored to their needs, individuals will gain better access to financial services, allowing them to confidently invest, increase capital and support economic growth in #Iraq.   GIZ, in collaboration with GFA Consulting Group GmbH, conducted a market research training for partners from the financial sector. Participants learned about relevant methodologies in market research and new approaches to developing financial products that are beneficial to underserved clients in Iraq. The participants also gained a better understanding of customer behaviour. This session is just the beginning! Meet Mohammed Ali, who completed a job training in hospitality to open his own hotel. Together with Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bbw-Gruppe), GIZ supported MoLSA and MoE in developing training courses that combine both, theoretical and practical elements. Hashim Muhammed, a youth from #Anbar, recently began producing clips to promote social cohesion after completing training in visual storytelling. In Anbar, GIZ and Soqya Foundation supported young men and women in developing their skills in content creation, storytelling, video production, and addressing hate speech to spread peace among their communities. Restoration of heritage sites does more than preserving local culture and way of living.
