About us
Since its inception in 2008, YourStory.com has strived to give entrepreneurs a voice. We have come to understand the startup space across all sectors and industries. Through our involvement in this ecosystem, we have witnessed a notable trend emerging in startups that focus as much on the success of their business as they do on the impact that it has on society. Recognizing the potential and diversity of this growing community of social entrepreneurs across the world, we decided they deserve a platform of their own, and launched SocialStory. At SocialStory, we believe in the immense potential of the social enterprise space for impact and development, and the growing importance that it plays in the global economy. We also believe that despite the potential it holds, social enterprise still does not receive the attention it deserves. By combining company profiles with investor and expert opinions, as well as relevant news in the social space, we intend to explore the entire social spectrum, understand the challenges and nuances, the potentials and opportunities, and communicate them to the world. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Feel free to write to us at [email protected]

Chambal Academy, the training vertical of Chambal Media, is a pioneering social enterprise dedicated to empowering women in rural areas through mobile journalism, digital literacy and climate literacy among other specialisations. The company, which also owns Khabar Lahariya, was established with a mission to integrate the perspectives and involvement of marginalised women into India’s digital revolution. What’s revolutionary about their work is that many of the trainees are dropouts who would have otherwise been given into early marriages, or resorted to cheap labour to earn a livelihood. Ashish Shalini Shrivastava, an electrical engineer from Bhopal, was working in the corporate sector when he felt the urge to travel and explore the country’s socio-political landscape. His journey brought him to Chhattisgarh, where the devastation caused by the Naxalite conflict created a deep impact on him. Siksharth’s data from the region is alarming. During the Salwa Judum conflict, over 300 schools were destroyed, impacting the education of more than 20,000 children in Sukma alone. With most schools situated in areas under extreme structural violence, these children were not just losing out on education but were also growing up with deep-rooted cyclical trauma. Siksharth was born out of the realisation that the children needed not just books and classrooms but also an environment that nurtured their minds and spirits. Founded in 2016 by Ashish Shrivastava and his wife Ashish Shalini Shrivastava, along with friends vikas shukla and Neeraj Naidu, Shiksharth is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering tribal children through contextual and culturally relevant education. It began with the team teaching in a few residential schools and has now grown into a movement that spans across hundreds of schools in the region.
