Towards affordable green housing for all. Vastu Housing Finance Corporation Limited (Vastu) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) are partnering to promote green self-built affordable houses in India. The project will leverage IFC’s Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiency (EDGE) certification tool and the Climate Assessment for Financial Institutions (CAFI) tool to build a portfolio of green housing in the country. The partnership aims to foster the growth of micro-housing loans while promoting diversity and inclusion through initiatives focused on women’s home ownership. Speaking on the partnership, Allen Forlemu, Regional Industry Director, IFC Asia Pacific, underscored the pressing need to make self-built homes greener, more energy and water-efficient. He mentioned that this partnership aligns with India’s ambition of decarbonizing and achieving net zero emissions by 2070. Sandeep Menon, Founder, MD & CEO, Vastu said, "Through our partnership with IFC, we’re strengthening our effort to build access and knowledge of green homes for our customers. This move is pivotal in our journey towards reducing carbon footprint and advancing sustainability in the Indian housing landscape.
