One Nation, One Poll proposal in India refers to conducting simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and all state legislative assemblies. Modi government last year appointed Kovind Committee to make recommendations regarding how to hold simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state Assemblies, and municipalities. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in March of this year, the committee recommended a number of constitutional modifications in its report to President Droupadi Murmu. The Kovind panel suggested that synchronized local body polls be conducted within 100 days after simultaneous polls for the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies. Step two will involve timing municipal and panchayat elections to coincide with Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. This will ensure that local body elections take place no later than 100 days after the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. It is necessary for at least half of the states to ratify this. Benefits 😊 👉 Regular elections now come at a significant financial cost. The first general elections in 1951–1952, for example, cost about Rs 11 crore; the 2019 elections incurred an estimated cost of Rs 60,000 crore. 👉 ONOE has the potential to lower expenses and optimize the utilization of resources, such as law enforcement officers, who play a significant role in election-related tasks. 👉 Regular elections encourage ongoing fundraising, which can lead to corruption. The number of election campaigns needed over a five-year term should be minimized by ONOE to lessen this. 👉 Simultaneous elections could speed up the registration process and minimize problems like names being left off of electoral rolls. Challenges 😮 👉 The Lok Sabha and state assemblies are required by the Indian Constitution to have five-year terms, unless they are dissolved early. 👉 A mid-term government collapse might throw off the synchronized election cycle and present logistical difficulties. 👉 It would need a lot of resources to set up ONOE, including a large number of electronic voting devices and staff with the necessary training to supervise the process. A parliamentary vote on two Constitution Amendment Bills, which will need broad support from many political parties, is necessary for the One Nation, One Election idea to succeed. 🙌 The BJP will need to work with opposition parties in addition to its NDA allies because it does not currently hold a majority in the Lok Sabha. . 🤝 How many Of You Support One Nation One Poll. ?? SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has released a Consultation Paper packed with recommendations from an Expert Committee, all aimed at making sustainability reporting easier for businesses like yours. 🔍 What's Inside? The proposals outlined are as follows: 1. Redefining Value Chain Partners: Value chain partners would need to individually comprise 2% or more of the listed entity's purchases/sales by value, and cumulatively they must make up at least 75% of the listed entity’s purchases/sales by value. This proposal aims to ensure that companies cover all the important players in their supply chain. By redefining value chain partners, businesses can better understand and report on their sustainability impacts. 2. Voluntary Approach to ESG Disclosures: In the first year of reporting ESG disclosures for the value chain (FY 2024-25), companies have the option to voluntarily disclose previous year numbers. This flexibility allows businesses to ease into the reporting process without the pressure of strict compliance. 3. Introducing Green Credits: The consultation paper also suggests including the Green credits indicator. This indicator measures how many environmental credits a company and its partners generate, incentivizing sustainability actions across the value chain. 4. Terminology Change: The paper proposes changing the term "Assurance" to "Assessment" in reporting regulations. This small tweak aims to give companies more options in how they verify the accuracy of their sustainability reports. How Can You Contribute?
